Hello all,
I have a Winchester model 70 laredo that I am looking for a good load recipe for. My buddy works them up, so I have to know what to get for him. The barrel is 26", however the previous owner left some pitted rust in the barrel near the muzzle so I'm having a gunsmith shorten the barrel to 25 or 24" depending on how deep it goes. I'm really hoping it can be cut down to 25" and get all the rust out at the same time.
Assuming the worst (barrel cut/recrowned to 24") is it still possible to obtain 2950-3000 fps with either a 160 grain accubond or partition? If not I might just decide to rebarrel, however the gunsmith says the throat appears to be in great shape and he recommends getting the most out of this barrel before replacing it.
Thanks so much for any input!
