Long throat 223 Remington match

I have several fast twist 223/5.56's, and in one of my long throat 26" 1/8" twist bolt guns, I run the 80's with 2520 @ 2,900 fps and the 75's @ 3,000 fps. With that load, I don't achieve as long of brass life than others, but I have tens of thousands of 223 brass. It has been a great LR smaller bore load for practice, fun, varmints and training for the kiddos.

I have a 24" 1/8" twist Match/Target in one of my AR's, but I have never tried 88's in it. Usually, I stay with the 75's in that rifle, for it shoots them extremely well.

I have used both of those rifles and loads at 1,000 yards with decent success, and I have shot a fair amount of varmints, mostly prairie dogs, at some fairly long ranges.

Something I noticed when looking into 22 arc is that I cannot find go nongo gauges is that what everyone else is seeing?

What freebore did you use? It seems like a lot of guys are having good success with 223 wyled. I will be limited to 2.6"

I built an Ackley just for the purposes you mentioned. 20" 7tw with longer free bore. Now I realize you did not mention a 223ai, but I went that route for a little better performance and the lack of brass trimming. I run it in local prs style club matches and have been competitive with it. Yes you give up some on the longer stages, but it's a cream puff to shoot. I run the Berger 80.5's and 25.0gn of IMR8208xbr out of Lapua and LC brass with cci-450's at 2888fps. I fire form with 24.0gn in both flavors of brass and it still hammers targets and critters, but the Lapua brass gives me better SD's. As you probably already figured out, the Accurate Mags can have the front of the internal polymer insert removed and dremeled out to get plenty of room for the long bullets. You might get there on your straight 223 but it would be easier with the ackley and would only require a set of dies, which I think that "squeeze would be worth the juice" on this project. Either way, you can't go wrong with a fast twist 223 bolt gun. I had a heck of a time getting mine back from my son, until I built him a. 22cm but that's a different animal. Correct me if I am wrong, but making a longer throat will only allow longer bullets, it does not improve the case capacity to increase velocity if you are restricted to the original mag length of 2.6"...?

Why not AI it and then you can get the major benefits from increased case capacity and long throat it.

You can then shoot 200 rounds of your normal .223 rounds, all while fire forming it to AI version. I do this all the time with my .338 Norma AI.

I use almost all Wylde chambers, accurate as all get out

Assuming you already have cfe223 because that's what you want to use, but if you end up trying a different powder, do your self a favor and get a pound of leverevolution.. that's right.

Use W748 data and work up, you'll pickup 100+ fps. Guaranteed before you pressure out.

This has been my experience with it. So I bought 8# . It also goes in my levers

He will gain capacity as the seating length increases and moves the bullet further out of the neck into the throat. Minimal, but it's there.

not if you are restricted to mag length, how much are you gaining from seating a 88gr bullet to mag length? that's why I ask. If it were my DT then yes, you can seat them long without a mag length restriction; allowing for more case capacity

Forgot to note, if your looking for pure speed out of it, try RL-17

I concur with RL-17, but be cautious as I have heard all the Alliant powders are being suspended for the public. I have a 300 RUM that is lights out with RL-25 and have since stocked up on it. Glad I did as I can't find it now.

2.6" is not SAMMI for 223 it's 2.25" so I will be picking up about a quarter inch in length. Maybe not enough... Id rather go 22 creedmoor that 223 AI and just run light loads

That's a pretty tall order for that kinda speed on that short a barrel. Who cares how fast it's going if you're using it for a training rifle/coyote rifle, they won't know the difference? I run a 85gr Berger with 25.5gr Varget @ 2850 from a 26" barrel. That load has taken shots to a mile

Makes sense. You will only gain about .17" Case capacity because the 88's are 1.25" long versus at 55gr at .74" with saami 2.26" oal. Let us know how it goes, I'd be curious. I'm running 77gr bullets that are .5" moa out of a stock RRA R18 upper. Darn tack driver and is fun out to 1000.

He already said he wasn't at SAMMI mag length.

That RR is shooting great though.
