For those of you who are thinking about a new long range rifle build I just thought I'd drop a few lines here with a bit of info on a great caliber thats got a big following in the BR and F-class game but a few varmint shooters have realy cought on to this fantastic little round.
The 6.5x47 Lapua is a great ltiile round geting very close to the same velocities as the 260 Rem but with less powder maing for a bit longer barrel life. Its only normal for reloaders to not leave well enough alone and start wild catting this round , the easy step of necking it down to 6mm will give you equial to and in some guns better velocities as the 243 Ackley even with the heavier bullets in the 105gr class.
The gun below is a Rem model 7 thats was fully bule printed with an over sized PT&G bolt , single shot follower glued in , the barrel is a 26.5" Bartlein , 5R rifling 1-7.5 twist and chambered specificaly for the 115gr Berger VLD's , the stock is one of Joel Russo's A5L's black & brown , the action is piller bedded and the barrel is free floated.
Anyway , I had built the gun to shoot F-class with but I had to help out with some medical bils for my mother and some toys had to go this being one of them. A great guy bought the gun and has since been shooting it , here is a pic of the gun folowed by an E-mail he sent talking about some shooting hes done , just a little proof that you don't need to spend $4000 on a gun to shoot small stuff at 1000+yds.
HEY JAMES,
I TOOK THE RIFLE ON A HUNTING TRIP, HIT 2 PRARI DOGS AT 1563 YARDS, A FEW AT 1200, AND FEW AT 750 PLUS. ON PAPER IT SHOOTS ONE HOLE AT 300 YARDS. (AT HOME 300 YARDS IS THE FURTHEST I CAN SHOOT) MY LOAD IS 38.5 GRAINS OF H-4831SC TOPPED WITH A 105 A-MAX, WITH THE BULLET 10 THOUSANDS IN THE LANDS. THE BARREL IS BY FAR THE BEST BARREL I HAVE EVER OWNED!! IT PICKS UP NO COPPER, AND CLEANS EXTREMELY EASY. I AM A FANATIC WITH CLEANING AND AFTER I CLEAN I CHECK IT WITH A BORE SCOPE. 10 PATCHES WITH BARNS CR10 AND ITS CLEAN. (I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT THIS IS AFTER 90 ROUNDS NONSTOP WITH NO LOSS OF ACCURACY). ALL IN ALL THIS RIFLE IS AWSOM!! CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH.
