i have a 243 vls and ive only used 95gr smks and it loves them and drives them out at about 3000 and ive never had a problem with them. i set mine up with a nf 20 moa rail burris extreme rings a 6.5-20x50 leupold scope and a brake so i can watch my hits at 100 with it on 20 power.

Hornady .224 BTHP 75 grain. It shoots similar to a .224 Scirocco II 75 grain. You have a cheap varmint bullet that allows you practice and then switch over to the expensive medium game bullet during deer season.

I got rid of the 6.5-284 less blast less powder less recoil and enough for g-hogs and fox way out there

I have the Savage 110 with custom stock and wanting a varmint barrel to buy for it it is a 22-250 now , I am wanting to go with .243 whereis a good place to buy replacement barrels from ?

I'd go with a PAC nor barrel they are tough and not to bad turn around time on them either. I'm going to get a couple soon one in 243 AI another 7mm stw another in 284win or 7mm wsm.

I see a lot of light bullets suggested. That's a no go for long pokes. They may work, but you'd be better served with heavier, high BC bullets.

.264"=140Amax/VLD, or maybe the 123Amax, especially if it's one of the smaller 6.5mm's, ie. creedmor, grendel...

95smks work good I've shot cans 500yds with my 243 when I run out im moving up to 107smks I've got some 115s I might try but I smks all the way.

I agree that heavier higher BC bullets help when it comes to long range varmint shooting. However the complaint I have with them is the lack luster of terminal performance they provide. I shoot PD's to watch them FLIP, JUMP, and EXPLODE! Even Bergers Varmint's are sub-par compared to the BT's. And when you get big and heavy you need some FPS behind them to really see what they are capable of.
