Loads for a 6.5mm wsm

Yes

Norma 270 wsm cases necked down. Rem 9.5 mag primers. 140 Berger. 2.432" to ogive. 57.2gr H4831sc. most accurate load.

RL-17 is good on accuracy too with the 140's but is more temp sensitive. About 56gr.

I tried Retumbo, H-1000, Ramshot Magnum, and H4350 all with the Berger 140's. The first 2 listed were the most accurate in my rifle producing .25-.3moa out to 300yds on paper. RL-17 gave the best accuracy/speed combo but in my opinion if you are shooting with a 24-26" barrel H4831sc is the ticket. Its a little slower but at 300 yds i stopped shooting when 7 shots were inside 3/4". Very good load.

Thanks MuleHunter, any idea of the velocity range you were getting with the H4831SC?

I'm shooting a 21.5" barrel. My load with H4831sc was giving me 2771. According to quick load the same powder charge (well under max) would yield 2933 in a 26" barrel. The low velocity is what made me switch powders. If you have a 26" barrel I think that H4831sc is the way to go it is by far the most accurate. And at 2950-3050 it would be a contender. RL-17 is giving me .3 moa performance and 2907fps but is way too temp sensitive.

if I rebarreled in 6.5 I would go with a 26" barrel and use H4831sc and the 140 JLK (.634bc) at over 3000 fps it would be a serious contender.

Some great info in this thread. The 6.5 bullet is my favorite as I have shot a Swede Mauser for many years and love that round. I was thinking of 6.5X284 and now I will have to look at this 6.5 WSM round as well.

Thanks for all the good information.

@Jackjr60, As I stated earlier, I have the 6.5x284 and love the round and rifle I have. Fun as hell to shoot. The 6.5wsm is a round that I'm not familiar with but it also sounds like another good one. I had never shot my rifle over 300yds until 3 weeks ago. We shot it 500 and 1,000 yds. I still have a bit of work at the 1,000yd mark, but the rifle made 500yds easier than I would have thought. Just a boat load of fun.

Curious what bullets and speeds you get from your 6.5x55. Most data loads for around 47k psi but in a modern bolt gun I bet they come closer to the 6.5x284, if you have a long enough barrel.

For those interested in the barrel life of the 6.5 wsm mine was Melonited by MMI Trutec. At 950 rounds of competition and heavy plinking the barrel is toast.

I recently build a 6.5 wsm I need some load data bad. Thanks for anyones help!

For what its worth, I settled on my loading for 6.5WSM. This is in a 26" barrel, 1-8 twist, 65 grains Hodgdon H1000 powder in WW brass, Fed215Mag primer, Berger 140 VLD bullets going just a few fps over 3150. I lowered my powder charge since the velocity increased in my Broughton barrel as I got more rounds through it. I had been using Fed GM210M primers but the first few groups with the 215M primers were obviously better.
Your gun will probably be different though, so work your way up carefully.

Thanks guys. Got a problem with chamber. When I get it fixed and some time to shoot, I will try all powders. Keep you posted
I best vel so far was 64.0 h-1000 fed fedgm215m 3100
Shot 66.0 h1000 cci br-2 was shocked 2930 almost 200 fps with just primers.

Thanks, keep me posted was hoping to get 3200 with
140s

I'm surprised you got that many :)

For a hunting calibre it is awesome, but targets, plinking etc, not so much !!!

The throat looked like a dried out lake bed but it made it 950 gun)

Shot the last deer with it this season at 225yds then yanked the barrel when i got home. The throat errosion in this cartridge is so bad i had a load start losing velocity on me at a Tactical match and it was changing my dope. Wouldn't recommend it for a competition cartridge :)

hey,

got to shoot the 6.5 saum

going with the 140 vld 61.0 IMR 7828 fed gm215m primers seated 3.245 comp lev 3150 shoots .300 or less.

very happy. very accurate
