I just recently completed some work with the Berger 185g Classic Hunter in my .308. I was using RL-17. It shot well all the way through the work-up, with accuracy peaking at 45.0g (just slightly above Berger book max, but my OAL was longer, too). I haven´t chronoed this load yet, but I would expect 2600ish from it. I am itching to try it @ 600 yards.
I agree that the .308 isn´t a hot rod cartridge. It is what it is-- a cartridge that is easy to make shoot accurately to the limits of its effective range and the limits of the shooter, with a wide variety of powders and bullets.
