I had to stop in to have a conversation with my insurance agent yesterday and was greeted at the door by a Rhodesian Ridgeback. What a beautiful dog! This one was a liver nose as I was told but the golden eyes are just plain stunning!

She was full grown but very calm and actually extremely friendly given that I was a stranger. I sat down on the floor and she put her head on my lap while my agent and I had a brief discussion. I hated to get up to leave.

Curiosity led me to look them up on the web where there is lots of information about the breed. Boy are they expensive though. I don't have time for dog with my schedule but I sure was impressed by this dog.

Funny but true story.

Many years ago, I asked a veterinarian that I knew, if he could recommend a dog breed for me and my wife and 2 little kids. I remember him recommending a Portuguese Water Dog and a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I never heard of either, so I asked his female vet tech, who I knew very well, why he recommended those two breeds. She tells me, "I don't know about the Water Dog but that he owns a Ridgeback and that the dog ate his entire leather couch. She said ignore that guy and get yourself a Golde Retriever or Black Labrador. I took her advice.

they need strong leadership and lots of activity for sure. they get bored and they're eating everything

I have never lacked in those departments.

My only dog was an all black Irish Wolfhound. I was 6 and he was a newborn puppy. By 8, he could stand on his hind legs and rest his head on my head. Fortunately, there was a lots of farm land around us so he could run and chase things to his hearts content. He was fast and strong. On a leash he would nearly drag me down the road! Well trained and protective of me...
