Light weight clothing for cold weather

Don't forget your boots! Too small or tied too tight and your feet will turn to lumps of not circulating cold blood. Best to buy your boots a size or two too big and wear thick wool socks. Maybe two pair of medium socks in case your feet get too warm. Uncomfortable feet can ruin a hunting trip!

Sitka has all the layers and quality made gear but not cheap. They have light, medium, and heavy weight marino wool base layers for different conditions. With a poly lightweight base (don't like the feel of wool and adds another layer) plus heavyweight marino and gore-tex medium insulated jacket and pants I'm good to go down to 0*. Not bulky as to interfere with shouldering a rifle or movement and allows me to keep my focus on the hunt and not the weather conditions. I was apprehensive about forking out the $$$ for this gear but it's held up very well over the years and performance is top notch except for the lightweight marino base layers which tear easily.

I've always been a "poor boy"….and pretty darn cheap. I've always liked military surplus wools…..especially the European pants.

And, wools are generally warmer if wet than synthetics!

The biggest issue now…..most young military men aren't pack'n around a "midriff" like mine! 🤬 I'm still wearing pants I bought 20+ years ago…..but, they're getting"snug"! ☹️ I think that they're getting "closet shrinkage"! memtb

Round here, I believe they call what we have, is a "spare tire".

You can't go wrong with Kuiu as others have pointed out. Just remember to order a size up on any of the outer wear and pants, especially if you will be wearing base & mid layers. Their Axis Pro pant is a good mid-weight option with minimal but useful kneepads. I hunted elk for most of a week in WY this Oct with them and was very happy with them. Also, all their hunting pants have zips at the back of the thighs if the day warms up.

Probly like me, your dryer is too hot, seems to have shrunk all my closes except my socks?

Spent too much time shooting in similar weather a few weeks ago. Minor frostbite on my trigger finger from the cold metal trigger. Whole end of the finger blistered and peeled. Yikes!
I've got a Browning Stainless Stalker 280 I'm wanting to shoot cuz it's new to me, but I'll wait until a 25-30* day, lol age has taught me patience 😃 and I hate the extreme cold anymore
