For a day hunt on mountains I carry 20 rds of ammo a savage 308, knife , small pocket survival kit, compass , binoculars.. a bottle of water,,,, and a sammitch....No back pack lol

Now in the south I carry two bottles of water in backpack, animal calls (predator) a knife on my side and walking stick.... with 308 savage...10 to 20 rds ammo... and a 44 mag redhawk, in holster. and I use my backpack and have some treats in it and cover scent ,,,, I put the pack on my ATV and go... Now my feet are getting better so I will do some stalking this season, and I just bought a pair of snake boots yesterday....I consider it a must have item like a snake bite kit too.

This is my list for Elk/Deer hunting in the Colorado and Utah mountains.

I backpack hunt. Solo. Drive deep into the mountains in my Land Cruiser, then hike back into places that are not close to ATV trails or roads. Typically hunt at least 3 miles from the nearest motor-accessible road; 5+ miles if possible. I sleep where I hunt, and generally don't return to the truck until I'm done. Out 5+ days at a time. Hunt rifle season and late rifle season, so weather can be cold and snowy.
