largest case per caliber choice?

i only jumped on the manbun wagon because it's a 26cal, then found a 260rem. i have very few bolt guns and any short action w/ .473ish face i have is in an ar (243win, 6.5creed, 260rem, 7-08rem & 308win so far). anything larger than 30cal in a 308win/creed type/similar case, i'll pass. maybe do a 277fury (65k max) in an ar with up to 150's?
I live in Canada so a suppressor may be out of the question anyway. I always wanted to try one though. I do not like muzzle brakes, too load!

depending on the style/shape of brakes they can be loud and ineffective or moderate and effective. reason brakes seem loud is how the pressure is redirected. linear (forward facing) fight against the noise by directing it forward and can reduce some felt recoil. the "pepper pot" style (holes going radial/360*) are a good 2nd choice that give decent lower recoil and less noise (just not very good when shooting prone). best brake i've used that reduces recoil and doesn't increase/redirect noise is lantac dragon. best at keeping the muzzle flat is ultradyne. i have close to 100 brakes of different styles and types that i've tried on various barrel lengths and cartridges of various calibers (short action cartridges, short mags and long action magnums) (no long action .473 base). some are silly designs and some actually are effective.

I'll say that the smaller the bore with same capacity brass you waste powder as there's more existing pressure.

Waste is subjective, take a 150 weight bullet in 308, 7mm, .277 or 6.5 and stuff it in a wsm brass. Each step down, depending on the step gradient probably loses 50 to 100fps.

Some could call that a loss, as you loose fps. However look at the b.c. of those bullets. Not a loss if your bucking wind at distance.

A 150 30 cal bullets a ballistic turd compared to a 6.5 150 grain bullet. If I'm in heavy brush likely to pummel a peninsula moose at bow range I'd take the faster 150 from the 300.. but put me in montana on the wide open wind and im going to grab the 6.5 wsm and a long skinny bullet.

I was talking more about 22 and 24cals, but it is what it is.

Waste can be subjective for sure as much as "1 man's trash is another man's treasure "?

All I need is a 27cal 308 based case and I'll have a quadruplet to try the 150 class bullets. Unless there's a 140 in 30cal?

The only place a manbun makes sense to me is in the ar platform. In a bolt gun there are better options. I had considered loosely the idea of a 6.5 barrel for my MWS. But now with the 277 fury that's less appealing. I'm going to have to look into the current crop of 277 diameter bullets.

Hybrid cases are available from American reloading. Not that I'd lean on my LMT that hard but the primer pocket should last a long time.

...as a long long time reloader and gun fanatic I've run the velocity race for many many laps, many throats have come and gone and make nice tomato stakes out of ruined barrels...in the end I'm not sure that extra 100-300 fps in any caliber is really worth it...a bullet from my old 30/06 placed in the vital area has the same effect as one from my many .300wm, wsm and saum..dead. It was really fun running the velocity game I'll admit but overall was it really much of a gain in the hunting world. I loved my first challenge the .357 herrett for IMSA targets, my 6mm/06 from old Ray R. for targets past 500 yards and the tons of other adventures. The xp-100 rechambered into 7mm/08 from the BR..was really fun. These days I'm up in caliber to the .338 edge, 7 stw, and a few others but time and age catching up...but it was fun as a younger man no doubt, but maybe it wasn't necessary in the hunting world in my opinion, target and benchrest is another story...so have fun, always have a next project in mind and have fun while it lasts.

I don't have one and no desire to have one…….very inefficient, requires a very large receiver, and I suspect barrel life may be very short! Once upon a time…..brass was readily available! memtb
