I and friends have hunted on a few posts/bases, especially in the South, and some had paved and dirt roads, tank trails, etc, that crisscrossed all through the hunting areas. Usually, we used portable stands for deer, so our shots would be downward somewhat, but we also stalk hunted and used extreme caution and listened for any type of traffic including ATV's or foot.
A few decades ago, I was living in an area that had a narrow historical parkway road that went through large, private wooded areas and National Forest, and hunting was allowed in those areas but not within 150 yards of the roadway. Sadly, a car with a mother and her 6 year old son was driving on that road when a 30-30 bullet penetrated the passenger door and struck the 6 year old in the thigh. Sadly, the child bled out before she could get him to a town and hospital.
Investigation into the incident and with the help of the local TV station airing the event led to a young man, late teens or early 20's I think, coming forward and claiming he had been deer hunting in the woods near that area and at that time. He was outside the 150 yard limit, but he had shot at a deer and missed in the direction of the road. By mere chance, the bullet transversed the woods and struck the car door, but the young man had no idea what had just occurred.
