Bumping this thread in the hopes of an update. I'm in the market for a short action cartridge that can shoot copper monos and it seems like the combination of screaming fast speeds and low recoil could really scratch that itch.

I have a 6PRC coming pretty soon with a 7.5 twist and a 9 twist barrel. I plan to try fast and light and heavy and slower projectiles.

They are all based on the 6.5 PRC.

Think 80gr berger at 4,000fps.

I believe the 6 Primal is based off the 6.5 PRC brass and the 6SST is based off the SAUM brass. The 6SST is a screamer with mono's

These larger capacity cases necked down to take .224 bullets usually have limited improvements over slightly less capacious cases. The increase in velocity usually hits a pinnacle while only showing slightly faster velocities. It usually gets pointed out that P.O. Ackley ran most of the then current cases up and down the scale while including the improved shoulder, some without much to speak of when it came to improving the velocity.

I have run the .22-284 which is nearly the same capacity and while getting some spritzy velocities, yielded a less than acceptable barrel life. For a hunting rifle, this might be O.K. but for a target rifle this is doubtful in my opinion.

However... there is no replacement for scratching that itch to create a new to you cartridge. I have fallen victim to this too many times to count. But I keep scratching...

I had Unknown Munitions chamber a 6-7PRC, and I love it. They also have a Saum based 6mm called the 6UM. They have ADG doing a run of head stamped brass, that should be out by spring.

Good to know. I was interested in a larger 6mm to use on a long action. Not sure it's worth it over my 6CM getting 3100 but checking. Something possibly off the 6.5 or 7 PRC case. I like improved cases so that why the interest in the primal. Easy button would probably be a standard 6.5PRC resized to 6mm. I have to make it more complicated though ‍♂
