Kestrel 5700 Elite

One piece of advice I'll pass along is to do updates often...and then double-check it after each update.

The last time I used my 5700 Elite w/ AB at a rimfire PRS match, I updated it the night before. When I went to enter dope for each stage, it went from 8.1 mils at 212 yards to 32.5 mils at 213 yards. I tried turning it off several times and I made sure that Bluetooth was turned off and that it was pulling the correct profile for the Vudoo I was shooting.

No matter what I did, that was the result. I asked Kestrel about it on Snipershide and their only suggestion was to try updating it again. When I asked what would cause an update to do this, they replied that sometimes, things like that happen.

I think they're an amazing tool, just make sure you check it before using it in the field after updates.
Sounds more like a reason not to update them. Kinda like my cell phone, it updated one night which caused me to have to update to another phone.😂
All kidding aside, a few years back we received notice of an update at the schoolhouse. When we started the update we realized there was an issue with that version that made the units not function properly. It was later remedied but I learned not to just jump right on it and to let others be crash test dummies. I bet those guys haven't done one in the past 2 years. I could be wrong but aren't most updates pretty much for bullet database? Mine hasn't been touched in a few years.

Their is a change log of what gets updated or added kept here: https://kestrelinstruments.com/mwdo...eBMnuFBhPM8Bqwfmlo2c9JV4vmyp_3SRyhoKqkrKlQpYI

The library is updated by us, and the app is coded to check your library vs the one the current one on the server. As for the actual library on the Kestrel, those profiles do not get updated unless its noted in the change log I posted above.

Their have been some slight changes to the solver, but that is to prepare it for the upcoming air rifle library only.

This question may sound stupid to some. What is the advantage to the blue tooth with the Kestrel?

The biggest advantage is that the App library updates immediately with the server. The profile loader for the non Bluetooth version gets updated maybe once every year or two years. The software has to be manually updated. The app, and Kestrel updates are handled in house by NK and the app has been coded to update on the fly.
