Jail Time!!!

Wow! I guess that's what happens when you shoot Kim "the King" Reynold's deer, and the new AG Brenna Bird's office still trying to make a name for herself.
18 point?? Looks like a decent 4x5 with eye gaurds.
I would've had a better attorney....
That's the way I totalled it up.....and not a decent looking rack by any means! Perfect CULL Deer...No symmetry at all

I don't understand why they fine more based on the size. Poaching is poaching, the fine should be the same weather it's a doe or a world record buck.
Generally, at least here, the additional amount over the poaching fine is what replacement cost of the animal would be. So, it's the fines plus that amount. Not sure if that's how that state does it though.

In my opinion the fines were not stiff enough.
He jackinghted another buck on previously and would continue to keep doing it.
How would you like him for a neighbor?
Knowing full well he could possibly be on your land.
I for one think he should be given a lifetime ban on hunting reciprocal to all other states and if caught again…
Prison time.

Did everyone read the article. He trespassed at night and shot the bucks with a spotlight. I'm surprised anyone feels sorry for him.
The reasoning behind "trophy " penalty laws is because unfortunately people will go to extremes to shoot a large buck, the bigger the further some people will go. Think how much a guide could charge to hunt this size buck...in addition, he destroyed evidence and committed numerous other violations, he got what was coming to him. Ps. Don't forget the second illegal buck he kill!
I hope that my post did not come across as any sympathy for this guy. I can go along with huge fines, confiscate his gear or even a public whipping. The only way I can back up jail time is on a chain gang. I can't see tax payers paying to house and feed this guy.

Yes, this was not subsistence hunting for sure. But 50k in fines? My next attorney would be appealing that BS...
I think it's more than just simple poaching! Sounds like he didn't do anything to help himself. Once your butt is put in the sling don't make it worse.
Obstruction of an investigation, plus the other charges is what got him. The others were more reasonably charged.

So:
"Alexander also was to forfeit all property seized as evidence, including the trophy deer's antlers."

Curious what was the total value of the evidence seized? Include vehicle? This value could be additionally significant.

Alexander pleaded guilty to the following 14 counts:
  • Illegally taking possession of deer (two counts)
  • Hunting without permission (four counts)
  • Hunting without a license
  • Hunting without a deer permit
  • Selling illegally taken or possessed deer antlers
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Spotlighting
  • Theft
  • Misdemeanor theft
  • Falsification
I wonder what the total original counts were and if these were the plea bargaining resulting counts?

Poacher actions invariably paint all hunters in negative light by the anti crowd relative to "trophy" hunting. However, IMO, severe penalties shows otherwise and hopefully act as deterrent to other poachers.
