Is faster better?

This is what I came up with in a 338 edge a 160gr at 4200fps VS 300gr 3000fps.
The bullet drop is twice as much on the 300 at 800 yards and the 160 still has enough energy to get the job done and is still faster at that range by 400FPS which reduces time of flight.
I used .350 BC for the 160gr and .500BC for the 300gr

Propelling a 300 grainer OTM .338 cal at 3000 FPS is simply amazing and a bad arse elk medicine however you look at it using Berger's ballistic apps at my altitude; an obvious choice for this average hunter.

Your BC is showing 0.421, but I'm shooting Nosler Accubonds with BC of 0.72... Quite a difference.

Once again You'll never figure it out, Being that you have 0 Experience with Hammers your spewing all this information completely blind, Just keep doing what your doing and keep hugging the Board and leave the fun stuff to the folks that have seen the results first hand
LOL oh geez I'm using Hammer's published information to back my point. If you cannot rely on their published information then I don't know what to tel ya bud. Have a good evening.

What is a realistic velocity for a 300gr out of an Edge I was being generous so I would not seem bias.

Dean

PS: I see hornady has 300gr @ 2600 FPS

WoW I was really being generous with the FPS. It makes that 160gr shine even more.

So is the trajectory is wrong that jbm or other calculators predict for Hammer bullets? Because I plugged in Hammer's published BC's.
Keep in mind that BC is an average and varies with speed, higher speeds = higher BC, so the stated BC is calculated at "normal" velocities so at 4,000 fps it will be higher. As an example Sierra gives their BC's at different velocities. This is for the .308 230 grain SMK; .800 @1880 fps and above .780 between 1600 and 1880 fps .740 @ 1600 and below

Yup that is true. Unless the program breaks it down to those variable. Many of Litz's are broke down like that. In this case it wasn't.
