Is anyone shooting a 270?

Rock the WSM with a quick twist and don't apologise to anyone. No need for a 26" tube either...

7wsm, 264 win mag, and 25/06Ackley are all much less mainstream than 270wsm at this point.

I was referring to 7mm as a whole.
The 270 of any flavor doesn't seem to get a whole lotta love here.

That was my whole intention in starting this thread. I don't see much love for the ole .277. I have had excellent results with it.

I'm working with a Tikka 270 WSM that I just bought off of another member here. I think it should prove an ideal platform. With the bolt stop modified and a LA magazine you've got room for anything as long as the throat will allow it. 24" barrel, not real heavy, and slicker than snot action; can't wait to get shooting. Even the 145 ELD occupies case space at 2.850~ so I imagine the 150 Bergers are doing the same even more so.

The 270's get a lot more love than it looks, you'd be surprised how many 270 WSM's are out there. I've rebarreled so many 7 Mags to faster twist 270 WSM's that I've lost count, I have three reamers just for that one round and I have exactly zero 7 mag reamers, zero 7 WSM reamers, two 1 SAUM reamer then one 28 nosler and two 7-300 Win reamers.
The 270 has a small handful of very, very good bullets, that's all it needs though, it doesn't need 15 different options to find one that seems to work well in your rifle.

What I really like about the 270 WSM is shooting a 170 Berger your getting excellent ballistics, recoil that doesn't need a brake but enough sauce to taco any elk you want inside 1000 yards. It's the perfect balance for a big game rifle!!
You can throw some 110 gr bullets in it for coyote season and run them out 3600+ fps like a death laser too!!

I have always had really good results with a 270. I'm thinking about building a 270 weatherby or 270 wsm. Anyone using these anymore? The 150 ABLR or 170 Berger Has a high BC

While I'm new to a 6.5 CM this year, my 270 is still a most-reliable go-to solution. I've loved shooting it. It's a straight 'n flat shooter.

I own 4 in .270win. Have gotten whitetail deer, mule deer, and coyotes with them. Love the round. Most of my handloads involve either a ttsx or LRX bullet. They may not have a BC that's quite as high. But inside 500 they are basically identical trajectory to any VLD type bullet. They leave 2 holes in whatever I shoot. I do use many other cartridges when I hunt. The 270 is boring though.... I shoot something and then have to drag it out. No fanfare, and no gunwriters raving about it. Eventually if I rebarrel one, I will get a faster twist rate and mess around with the heavier VLDs.

The .270 is a great little rifle. My wife and sons both started out with them. My sons still use theirs. They kill elk and deer out to five hundred yards with ease. I started with one, but have moved up to a 7mm then the .30's. I will always keep one in my safe just Incase. I only use the LRX's in them these days, but it's been effective for my family.

Since you brought that up...
I've got a theory and I'll let you decide if there's merit to it. The 7mm cartridges you've listed with the exception of the saum have a very good selection of off the shelf rifles that will handle some pretty slippery bullets. Aside from someone who just wants a premium barrel, what incentive does a person have to rebarrel one?

On the other hand, it's well known the 270 is handicapped by it's factory twist. But, people are seeing what it can do with the right twist. I think then, that if someone wants to take full advantage of the 270 rounds they will likely find a donor to build off of. The 7mm mag is just so abundant in factory form it's easy to pick one up and pitch the barrel to build what a person is really after.

270 is great with right twist. My X Bolt does well with 150 bergers. But didnt do well with anything longer!

Guys who shoot 270's just go kill stuff, no need for fan fair, we're just all to used to the awesomeness and think everyone has it this good!
