Iron sight plugs

pack of 4--$10
Haven't seen these before, but sounds like a more expensive version of what Brownells or Midway sells. Can't say I've ever seen a "factory fresh rifle" with screw plugs in the barrel.

They are the same thing. Actually , most factory rifles that come with iron sights will come with plug screws in the scope base holes on the receiver. Even some early rifles, like Pre64 model 70s came drilled and tapped for a receiver sights on the side of the rear receiver ring and these holes would have 6x48 plug screws in them.

A lot of the small hardware stores (Ace ,true value, and the like) usually have them. Have got me out of a few jams when I lost a screw

Sight screws are going to be 6x48 which is a thread pitch sort of exclusive to the firearms industry. Most thread checkers don't have that pitch. The crazy thing is, even the Brownell's thread checker for "gunsmiths" doesn't have 6x48 on it. About the only general hardware plug screw you'll find is going to be a 6x40. Most of the better gun plug screws also have a small beveled head on them.

If you have a gun store around that sells rifles, mounts and scopes. And installs scopes, Usually has a can or jar with many of them they have removed from base holes on 700 Rem. rifles.
Some will let you have them cheap or free.
