Interlock vs SST

I still have some from when they called them "Spire Points". They changed the name to interlocks a long time ago. They shoot great in my .270. Same recipe for over 35 years. Hope they never stop making them.
Lol ! Spire points. Yep. Have some of them. Cone heads.
My old SST's are lead tip. Did I say that already ? Is it Friday ?

I'm getting old too, you are right the interlocks came out years before the interbonds. I have 7 different 308 that shoot the 165 interbonds .6 or better with the same load of H 4895. Tried the Accubonds, they shoot good with different charges, and they are also a good bullet. Keep shooting, I have a uncle that is 92, he killed a 8 point last year and a 11 point two years ago.
Only by 1 year !

Interlock has been the gold standard in cup and core bullets for probably longer than I've been alive and have a interlocking ring which helps hold it together while penetrating. Early SST's were explosive but I haven't heard of any grenading in the last 10 years so possibly changed?
At under 300 yards at 7-08 velocity pick which shoots better and stay off the shoulder and you'll be fine.
Like that bull brother. You probably said already. Wyoming ?

You are older than me Red . I know.... Team leader . You driving back home to Gillette after work tomorrow ? Have a great weekend brother .

My friend gave me a partial box of the 139gr SSTs to load up in my 280AI for a deer hunt. He swore by them for his 7mm-08. Well out of the 7mm-08 they be the cat's meow but out of that 280AI they made a mess of the Mule Deer doe that I shot. I shot her around 100-150yds downhill broadside. Lots of blood shot meat. I hit her on the back portion of her shoulder and the bullet just exploded. She went down pretty quick but way more damage than I like to see. I was told I should've been shooting the 154gr or 162gr SST to not come apart so violently. I think the only thing we found was part of the jacket and only a few small pieces of the core.
I prefer to use the Nosler ballistic Tip hunting since they tend to hold together better.

Out of the two bullets you have listed I think I would be sticking with the Interlock. However the 7mm-08 doesn't have the velocity of the 280AI so your results from the SST might not be the same as my experience.

The 7mm-08 and the 139gr are a match made in heaven.

For the 280AI the 162gr SST is hard to beat. Not as explosive as a Berger and holds together perfectly, even at close range. We have used it in the 280 Rem, 7RSAUM and 7mm Rem Mag.

I have always been a Sierra Bullet or Nosler kind of guy but when my friend raved about the SST and how great they worked in his 7mm-08 and giving me a partial box I thought what the heck. Like I said I won't use the 139gr again out of the 280AI.
