Interesting video on what we all know is going on with automobiles

what ticks me off is as a cash paying person i don't get much savings cause of low interest rates! who cares! i'm not financing when i can save by not going to a bank! my '15 model 350hd ltz dually i bought for under 50k new when the dealer took over 11k off. i'm selling my jd 7215r that has the ivt trans and equipped with a heavy loader via joystick that has less than 1,500 hours on a '12 model. the plus is, it doesn't have or require DEF. that'll add 10-12k alone as farmers don't want that crap (maybe a few do). i could probably sell my dually for more than i paid for it as it has less than 85k on it. purchased 3/16, so a nearly 9 yo (technically a 10 yo) vehicle averaging less than 10k per year. i've had several offers on it over the last 3 years.

i'd rather take an older vehicle and make it the way i want just like my firearms. no need to spend huge money on something you'll change (at least for me). reason i have an '01 2500hd is for the fun of engine swap along with gears and trans, not including exterior changes.
I hear ya. We're no longer in the days where a vehicle has a Chevy 350 for generations. They change things every couple of years now due to tech and EPA compliance. They're also very complicated to work on making modifications either impossible or very expensive.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 with 160,000+ miles. Decided last year to get a new truck - found a super low mileage 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with 6.2 for solid price (much cheaper than new). Thought I was set - then it just died one day, stranding wife and I fortunately a few miles from the dealer. Fuel Pump Control Module failed - $130 part but none available in nation. Waited 30+ days to get part to repair. Fortunately I kept the 2015 Ram so I had a truck for matches, etc.

Service writer (this is small rural dealer) told me that all the new vehicles are having issues and then parts are not available.

Even the new version of the Tundra is having engines fail (100,000+ need replacing).

Keeping the GMC as I will lose money selling and do not want to trade for any other "new" vehicle.

I suggest that the manufacturers at the behest of the government will eventually limit repair parts to force us all into EVs.

I run into this a lot in my job. Late model trucks and a lack of available parts. The Transmission Control Module for some year Allison transmissions was on back order for over 10 months. I had two customers that could not use their pickups for months. I feel a lot if this is planned. Where did I put my tin foil hat?

That 7215 will hold its value being green. We have one. The problem around here would be, finding a farmer to buy it after the year we have had with grain prices lol. Those ivts are tough to! Mine has been tuned for years and still going strong.

bought it use with less than 200 hours on it from the dealer who sold it the 1st time. made a decent deal on it as going from spec for what would've been at the time a $240k (not sure what the og bought it for) on msrp, i feel like someone would be getting 1 heck of a deal from me. grain prices are almost a scam the last 30 years from my point of view. wish they (gov) would quit using our hard earned money against us by shipping so much out of this country!

Grain prices/ tobacco prices have all been a scam. Some years worse than others. Tractor would have been 220k new with the loader. Hopefully things will turn around some in a few years.

Welcome to the food production club, fish prices have been abysmal for about 30 years as well. Looking at 1970s salmon prices (not adjusted for inflation....) while having 2024 expenses. But I know better, when I was in high school we as a country subsidized our direct competition in south America under the guise of creating economic stability... think my junior year the foreign aid was almost the same as the industry ex vessel value. Story has repeated in some form or another the last few decades, I'm a moron for not learning.

John deere is a good example of the truck market, emissions controls have eliminated a lot of solid engine options. The ones left are not as good as versions 20 years older. Current curb price of a component 6135 john deere with a panel and exhaust elbow is a bit over 80 grand.... and with john deere going all weird with diy service it's getting hard to stomach.

It's a weird deal, I'm not trying to go back to the smog of the 70s... Just take me back to the early 2000s. Don't remember getting the black lung in 2007.... would love to have a pre def no backup camera analog dash truck from 2007.

Wish I could go back in time and buy a couple manual toyota hatchback cars and a spare crew cab diesel from the early 2000s to put in a barn....

Ran across a "like new" 2009 Toyota Camry a couple of years ago - super low mileage - literally owned by a little old lady. Snapped it up so we have something to drive while the newer vehicles are deadlined for no parts. That Camry will outlast us all!

I drive a couple classics. My gas miser is a 2006 Honda Accord with the 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission(aka millennial anti theft device). My truck is a 1999 Chevy Silverado with the 4.8l LS. Both vehicles are reliable and easy to work on. I dread the day when all the newer tech filled vehicles start to get old and impossible to service.
