Welcome to the food production club, fish prices have been abysmal for about 30 years as well. Looking at 1970s salmon prices (not adjusted for inflation....) while having 2024 expenses. But I know better, when I was in high school we as a country subsidized our direct competition in south America under the guise of creating economic stability... think my junior year the foreign aid was almost the same as the industry ex vessel value. Story has repeated in some form or another the last few decades, I'm a moron for not learning.
John deere is a good example of the truck market, emissions controls have eliminated a lot of solid engine options. The ones left are not as good as versions 20 years older. Current curb price of a component 6135 john deere with a panel and exhaust elbow is a bit over 80 grand.... and with john deere going all weird with diy service it's getting hard to stomach.
It's a weird deal, I'm not trying to go back to the smog of the 70s... Just take me back to the early 2000s. Don't remember getting the black lung in 2007.... would love to have a pre def no backup camera analog dash truck from 2007.
Wish I could go back in time and buy a couple manual toyota hatchback cars and a spare crew cab diesel from the early 2000s to put in a barn....
