I'm helping a friend sell some guns to help pay for his father's medical expenses. There are a lot of what I consider collectibles. Then I started thinking about buying a few to start a collection of superb condition guns. In this collection that I have considered buying is a Ruger #1 and a Browning 1885 highwall, along with some lever actions. What would y'all collect as far as guns to be kept in pristine condition?

I always had a yen for a fine double rifle. Not in a big hitter like a nitro express of any sort but something like an 8mm mauser or similar.

I've always loved the Ruger #1's the 1885 he has is something that I don't see very often in this condition, that is why it landed on my list. If I remember the #1 is a big bore, so it may not stay on my list for long. I just sold an elephant gun in 500 Jefferies, what a beast that round is

I'm afraid going forward what folks of our era call "collectibles and/or fine pieces" are going to drop in value because those coming behind us typically do not value the same things. YMMV

Not sure if I can find a picture of it as it's at my moms right now (recently moved and don't have a gun safe here yet) but I have an exposed hammer double barrel shotgun with a blown up barrel that cost the original owner most of his left hand.
Technically the gun is probably worthless but the story behind it is awesome and I show it to everyone I teach to shoot/reload
I also have a LC Smith Deluxe that's in poor shape, but when I'm rich and famous I plan on sending it to Doug Turnbull for a restoration
I'd like to get a Winchester 1885 from pre WWI in 30-06

I agree. I have may hunting rifles aka my tools but thinking about but thinking about guns of days gone by, works of art, and significance
I sold one (Dakota 76) that was intended to be a keeper, but dare say if I see another nice one - I would probably succumb LOL
The GS that built my 1911 had aan old rifle that after discharging a round you would 1/4 turn the barrel counter clockwise, it would discharge the spent casing , and open a small door on the side and load the next round. I can't remember what he said it was but I told myself if I found one that was affordable I'd buy it. Not sure if it was an expensive gun or not but I was cool
