If you could only have one gun...

If only 1, I would take a Tikka/Valmet over/under in 12ga -30-06 or 12ga- 9.3x74
Those European multi-caliber break action guns are sure interesting. My choice would be a side x side 20 ga with a 308Win on the bottom 26" barrel. Could Deer hunt and Pheasant hunt simultaneously. In SD you not infrequently see both on the same hunt and the seasons run concurrently.

Thank you for sharing. Nice rig.

My favorite battle rifle, and service rifle competition gun, even against the ubiquitous black guns on the firing line

Blast from the past. At around 3 minutes time, you can see how the rifle behaves in rapid fire.

A nice family of M1As, I've done a little high power in the past with both AR and M1A and never should have stopped, but... I got the F-Class fever you know how it goes. My M1A was set up for LEO work as a backup to the bolt rifle and multiple target engagements. This one is perhaps the most accurate I've ever used or owned. My last Dept M14/MA1 was the M21 with the original ART II 3x9 Army contract scope on it, the old Nam setup. it had issues and my rifle now would shoot circles around it. I spoke with Jim Leatherwood, many years back, about that scope and its ballistic cam shortcomings, from our conversation you'd think I picked him in the eye with a sharp stick... it got nowhere. So as a do-all rifle right now I find my M1A pretty hard to beat, it's magic with my 168gr Mk OTM load, whether shooting small groups on paper or tipping over an Elk, game that runs, just die tired. 😉 Cheers

Why not a "Drilling" then like the German "survivor" issued in WW II? SidexSide shotgun on top with a rifle on bottom? Just saying

308 Win Sako 85 Carbonlite 20" with Leupold VX5 3-15 htmr cds. Valdada 20 moa rail, Hawkin percision lt rings with level. Harris bipod.

Reason: light, accurate, efficient: Hunt anything, anywhere on the planet within 200-600 yards. You really don't need more.

I initially laughed at your post, then realized that you used the term "anywhere"…..not "anything"! A vast difference! memtb

My uncle had a drilling …a double 16 gauge (a bit shorter than our 2 3/4" shells) x8mm R. In the '60's it was valued over $3K…..though, possibly less now. My cousin occasionally uses it on deer drives! memtb

They are very well balanced. I droolled everytime I saw one at a show.

Nice.

The 168 SMKs are indeed the magic pills for the 14s. The FGMM 168s became the golden standard for M14/M1a precision back in the day. The Quantico Interservice Individual 1000 point aggregate record established by a Marine shooter, 995-50X, with a 14 was never broken till the 4.5X optics was allowed as a service rifle sighting system.

Not knowing where in NW your AO is, a day trip to see Ted Brown with the deptarment 14 would be worth it. Ted was a military armorer, and maybe one of the few remaining armorers out there who know their way around M14s.

.270 Win for me, in my Weatherby Ultralight. I'm just a deer hunter , and at 74 there are no Africa or Alaska Brown Bear hunts being planned by me!! Maybe a Mule deer and Antelope combo, and the 270 will be adequate.
It's funny. In my 20's, shooting 100 rounds magnum (30 cal mag) off sand bags. was nothing. Now I try to keep it under a box. Half a box for the 375.

Thanks for the info, Brown is at the south end of Oregon and I'm in the upper north of Washington, however the wife and I were planning a trip pretty near to Ted, and others in the past have mentioned his name as well. I'll try to get face-to-face with him. 🤙 Cheers
