I may get beaten down here

Been running a Witts Machine on my 30.06 for several years. Ugly - Mwh. Functional - Yup. Afraid it would blow off - Yup. Did it? - Nope... Several years later. Still functional...
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If you are not reloading. I would probably avoid it just because it really changed the harmonics of my barrel.
Same here. 6.5, 7mm 308

We put them on 2 different 257 wby. Stopped the jump and buck completely. The Witt ones worked great. Being able to shoot 1/2" groups consistently was more important to me than looks. Remember the rifle is a tool. Doesn't have to look cool. It has to work. Tight groups my friends.

X-2

Just to pile on, ugly? Yes. That said, my buddy put one on his sporter 7mm. I (really) hated to shoot the gun before the bolt on Witt, now it is like a .308. He did same for his .300WM "just so he can spot his shots" he says, and I agree, that is certainly the best benefit in my opinion.

Wow thanks guys i was kind of sure someone would be very disturbed by the idea of bolting anything to a rifle barrel. I just dont want to change the original action or barrel on my dads old 308 mind you ive changed everything attached to it
I, for one, am glad that you asked this question.
I have found that there are ALOT of nice, knowledgeable, helpful folks here. They far outnumber the immature bashers.
Again, good question with lots of good answers! đź‘Ť

So here i go what is the feeling on using a clamp or bolt on muzzle brake on an nonthreaded barrel?
The Witt clamp on muzzle breaks are custom made. You have to take measurements at the muzzle and 1-1/2" back and they custom make it to your size. I put one on a Tikka T3X lite because the barrel was so thin at the muzzle (.620 if I remember correctly) I didn't want to try and get it threaded. In 6.5 creedmoor it did make a difference in felt recoil but still had too much muzzle rise for me to spot impacts. I ended up selling that rifle, not because it didn't shoot I just needed the money for another project. It you choose Witt you will not be disappointed.

I bought a multiple witt clamp ons. Love the results on recoil. Not putting my rifles in a museum. Lol. But my wife loves to shoot the 30.06, and the 300 WBY. So its a win. I just got the muzzle break that has a shroud that you can add to the break so you dont blow the hat of of the guy shooting next to us on the range. Its amazing on how much it brought to recoil down on the 300 wby. I just shot 40 rounds through it . No sore shoulder at all. Kicks like a 223 it seems. I love that thing

You can't go wrong with the Witt clamp on muzzle brake. I have three of them, and have had zero issues with any of them. I just received shipping conformation on one for a friend of mine for his rifle. They make a great product.
