I’m Making The Switch

I've been reading and think I need to build off on older 110 savage 270 with blind mag that I got that has been sitting for years…. Got my mind turning thinking about 8 or 7.5 twist 270 Winchester and sling the 156 hammer hunters with some Reloder 26 (would probably bankrupt me though to find the powder).

XLR is now making the element chassis for Savage actions. Stock options were always a challenge for Savage. Getting better

Honestly, 25 creed is fantastic. It's a true easy button. You get the benefits of the speed close to 6 creed, with the bc of 6.5. And every one I have had has been a shooter. Peterson brass and bergers with RL26 or H4350 and you're good to go

If your looking at building a .257 and have no brass nor want a magnum cartridge, I'd agree the 25 CM IS the easy button. I'd have gone that route had I not had a ton 6.5-284 brass.
I got my eye on the both of ya

Rugged Micro 30 in short config.
Outlier 16" 1:8, 7mm-08
Elf 110 SE Precision Rifle Trigger
KRG Bravo
Thank you for the pointer to the Elftmann trigger. Didn't know those existed. I LIKE their push-button AR safety so I'm ordering one to try out.

Mesa's Altitude stock is listed on their page as offered for both LA and SA, Pure Precision's Altitude stock page only lists the SA. Is this a case of mixed up mfg's, or of the page not being up to date with the offerings?

You won't regret it. Just stock up on enhanced extractors if you plan to push the pressures. I have mainly Sako rifles but one of my customs is a 6.5x284 Norma on a custom Savage 111 donor action that started life as a 25/06 (original build was a 6.5 man bun, hence the blown extractors). The rifle, as bad as I hate to admit it because I use to be a Savage hater and a little bit of a gun snob 😁, is probably my favorite rifle. It is a legit 1/4 moa gun. It will humble the biggest of gun snobs 😉, granted it is about a $2500.00 build without the scope, bi-pod and accessories. My only complaint with the Savage is the bolt throw, yet the custom bolt in mine is smooth as glass, just wish it was 60-70' instead of 90'. It won't matter much to you coming from a Remington action. Savage is a great action to build on especially for someone on a budget or wanting to learn the ins and outs of building their own rifle.

Build components:
1) Savage 111 Long action donor action. (Action was trued and squared by Meredith rifles in Athens Alabama) $340
2) Everglades Tactical Bolt Handle $70
3) Sharp Shooter Supply bolt, firing pin. Enhanced extractor, recoil lug, & barrel nut. $170
4) Shilen Custom Select Match 27" 1/7 twist M24 contour barrel chambered 6.5x284 Norma $600
5) Area 419 break $170
6) Timney Elite Trigger ( Meredith rifles installation and adjustment 1.5 lbs) $149
7) Original Savage bottom metal with enhanced mag release and custom 10 round mags from Dark Eagle Customs. $249
8) Millet 20 moa base. $70
9) Cerakote (Gun Metal metallic: Receiver and bottom metal) $125
10) HS precision stock $425
11) Additional gun smithing( bedding, lapping, bolt etc.) $350
12) Hawkins Precision rings w level $120
13) Athlon Cronus BTR w shade $1600
14) Harris Bi-Pod with Hawk Hill custom feet $160
15) Short Action Precision 2 round holder $12
16) throw lever $25
17) US optics level $69
18) Tubbs DRI angle indicator $70
19) tactical padded comb and butt sleeve w dope chart pouch $15
20) Claw sling $35

This rifle was primarily built as a tactical rifle for 3x600 competitions and 1000 yard competitions, not to light about 12-14 lbs but a lot of fun to shoot. It would make a great PRS rifle.

Please post feedback. I too was unaware of this option and interested.

Can you give details on this. Looks like exactly what I want, if LH is available. None that I have seen has a DOPE card pouch.
I bought several of them at one time several years ago. They are well made and have held up well. Try eBay just make sure they are coming from in the US. I will see if I can find a link for the exact one I have. Allen makes one that is similar.

This one is similar to the ones I have except rather than having the extra round holder mine has a clear plastic dope card hold in the pouch. You could probably just get a dope card holder and put Velcro on the back and insert it in the pouch on the side. These are on eBay and come from Utah. The are just generic but they work. I have seen them with different logos as well.

I bought a few of these a few months ago. They are decent for the money. They should hold up for years. But then I am not hard on my rifles anyway. I tried to put one on a Norinco JW 15, 22 lr (factory wood) I have. I could not get the fit I liked with that type of stock. Just so others know. They seem to be made for the taller butt stock configurations. Not really sure how else to really describe the difference in stocks.

No they are definitely made to go on a tactical a style stock like a McMillian A3,5, Manners A6 or HS Precision with the deep comb and pistol grip style stock like is on my rifle. They are fully adjustable but it takes some playing with to get the fit you want. I adjusted on one of mine every time I got the rifle out for over a year. Finally got it like I like it and now I hate to take it off, which you have to do to remove the bolt. I made marks on the inside that helps me know where to return the straps. Once you do it a few times it is fairly simple. For what you pay they are a great product and they have held up well.

These are what I have been using for years, top quality
I have a couple like that. I like them, especially on my hunting rifles. On a Wby Mark V 338 Win I have I needed to raise the comb. I took a piece of pipe insulation tube and cut it to fit the stock and used this to secure it, worked like a charm.😁 Built a palm swell on a 308 out of tennis racket tape, best one I ever felt, looked cool too 😉, although I really don't care what a rifle looks like as long as it is a shooter and handles well. As Whelen said " Only accurate rifles are interesting."
