How not, to use a 6.5 creedmoor

I watched an elk take a 180 from a 7 mag high shoulder and lived for 42 minutes before we could get a finishing shot this last year. Saw a bull take 6 rounds from a 300 rum with 180 ballistic tips until it finally died this last year. 2 years ago bull took a 180 from my old stw in the chest and lived for 47 minutes until he finally died.

Burnt out on these guys rubbing each others cranks over the hatred for the 6.5 creedmoor. If you hunt at all you will see just about every cartridge not do it's job correctly.

I agree that bullets and guns fail and sometimes it's just not your day or the animals.
Just because an old timer I know killed 20+ moose a dozen Buffalo and a hand full of elk with a 223 62 fmj doesn't mean we should all be hopping on that train.
As Sportsman we have a responsibility to the animal or animals and I'm just saying a 6.5 creedmoor ain't the cat's *** for killing elk and you are more likely to have issues at distance, on another note I watched a guy shoot a cow elk with a 6.5 creedmoor at 900 yd and drop it his buddy had to shoot it five times and go up and finish it off. I guess flung what you're brong if that's all you got.

Dang Cliff, If it weren't for your last little blurb then I would think you were proving the case against using a Creedmoor. If those heavier hitters might not get the job done quickly, then why try smaller?
I don't care what you use, just know the limits.

Not hate, just facts. I have a 6-284 which I am quite fond of, but I would not choose it for elk. Coyotes to deer yes, elk no. I like having a variety of rifles. So are you saying the 6.5 CM is just as good as the 300 RUM for elk? Six 180 Ballistic tips? If they were Nosler balistic tips, they are a p--s poor choice for a penetrating hunting bullet especially on a large body elk especially out of a high velocity RUM. Probably disintegrated on contact. I used to shoot a 300 RUM. That is a cartridge for larger bullets.

Improve the odds
Develop the skills
Know your limitations
Use good judgement

Well yeah, you're just reinforcing what I've said for years about the average hunter.

Here we go again for all the hornady lovers. These are 6mm and 6.5 mm rifles pure and simple. They are not magic. Use your head

I'm not trying to defend the guy but the first shot, hit at the lowest point of the shoulder and didn't penetrate. It didn't hit at the elbow and break the leg. When you are looking at the front view in the video, the leg that is sticking out a little side ways is his hind leg because it's on a little incline. You can see it when the bull takes the step. You can also see his front leg on the side the shot was taken sticking straight down.

I'm not judging, just saying what I would have done in that situation. I would have been prone with a bipod or pack and rear rest. You need to be as stable as possible and the rock he was leaning on was not it. It wasn't the caliber or cartridge.

No one said it hit at the elbow. But above the elbow. If you watch real close and slow it down you can see the bullets impact and a slight shock wave. The leg was broke maybe 5" above the knee. You also see this as the bull runs away and he picks the leg up. it buckles right at that spot.

I found this gem the other night. Didn't want to share it, but here it is! I really appreciate what my 6 & 6.5 Creedmoor's are, but this is not how or what they should be used on. If you've hunted long enough, you're gonna have a bad experience, but DAYUUUM!

All you have done is cried about Hornady and any new cartridge out there while also preaching that Rich's cartridges are the best ever and recommend rifles and cartridges for western hunting... all of which you have zero experience with.

Am I seeing this right, please correct me if I'm not. I'm having a hard time telling where his first shot hit. On my phone it looks like it hit shoulder (maybe broke it) and didn't penetrate. Then miss (?...all I see was dirt flying) and another miss (third definitely, wide left). Then base of the neck/shoulder junction (?), then another rifle and pistol shot after jumping him when they made it over.
I know crap happens when hunting but the video made me cringe a bit.

Im almost 60 if you've hunted as long as i have your going to have stuff happen your going to make decisions that aren't perfect and crap happens so don't condemn fellow hunters hopefully they learned something cause thats what it is a learning game

300 Win Mag from a good rest is the lightest I'd use in this situation.
