How bad is the 7 backcountry?

Naw, it was pretty hated right away. Most thought it was total *rap util 2013/14 ish. Then they started to show up at the range and Savage events.

Savage always brought tofu for snacks for those interested in 6.5. ;)
I was reminded of a conversion I just had with a guy before Christmas. The guy's dad wanted to buy his two young sons 6.5 Creedmoors for their first rifles for Christmas. The guy was like I am glad my dad wants to buy them their first deer rifles, but I don't want em to grow up to be 6.5 Creedmoor shooters. 🤣
So I suggested 243, and he was able to talk Paw Paw into buying 243s instead. (cheaper ammo/availability was the selling point)
He skillfully avoided skinny jeans and man buns for his 2 boys, and didn't offend his dad.(cheaper ammo/availability)

Honestly that's a pretty dumb reason to choose .243 when the ammo is pretty much the same price and 6.5 Creedmoor has more versatility.

I swear the anti Creedmoor crew are bigger idiots than the "6.5 Creedmoor hits like a .300 Win Mag" crowd they love to rag on.

Haha so true. 7mm guy myself but I don't understand it either.

They are worse by far. Doesn't matter the conversation, they find a way to whine about it.

One problem I see with this for reloaders is you lose the safety margin of the brass case. I see some of the loads people put out there that obviously are over pressure. If something bad happens the case will go first and most modern actions can handle it. With an 80k round I wonder what the brass is capable of ? You are approaching the limits of the action. I get they run proof loads that are way out there. I would be concerned if the brass can take 100k their is the potential to damage the rifle and the shooter.
On one podcast I listened to with a Federal engineer, he said the proof loads are 108 K psi!!!

Yikes…

I don't think this is going to be a failure. Ammo isn't overly expensive. Magnum performance out of a short barrel, uses less powder than a magnum. Pressure is contained within the case itself, so I'm sure other classic calibers will be released with the new case, bumping up performance on those. It's a win. Personally not interested in it, but then again anything in 7mm never interested me. We'll just have to see how the reloading part goes, right now it's just all speculation, but people will probably adjust if necessary. All I'm pretty sure about now, is Hornady most likely is really unhappy with the 7BC.

Lol. Hey we can't help it if the 7mm is the perfect balance of bullet weight, sd and bc.

No argument from me, I think everyone should have one of each, I know I would if I had deeper pockets.

But because of that, I can't have all of them and it's gonna be a while before I get to a 7mm most likely, unless I do a short action like 7SAUM. I don't know if I would, I think I'm set on a long action 7mm of some flavor which I haven't decided on for certain. Currently I'm putting together a <gasp> 6.5 PRC and it is gonna be up to 11 more weeks for the lead time. I'm not doing it myself. Sure, I could find someone else, but I'm ok with it as I have my hands full and probably can't hunt until July. When I get my rifle I'll get dialing it in in prep for July.

Unfortunately, the problem that happens far too often is then the father goes out and buys his 2 boys boxers and jeans they can wear around their thighs with a hoodie. That unfortunately seems to go on far more than buying skinny jeans.:(

One of my friends has a 17 year old that shoots a 300RUM. I guarantee you, his father would never own and even let his 17 year old get a man bun cartridge. It's all good, we can still go hunting together and heckle each other over a good or bad shot. Maybe that's so on LRH, that I'm not sure as I have only been actively posting for a couple weeks. I have always found the Guidelines to be contentious when I've read them, and the past couple weeks have been no different.
