H4350 Dawg
The best powder I've found for my 300 WSM is Reloder 17. Some of the newer data is pretty tame but original data for this powder shows velocity is second to none and great accuracy can easily be obtained.I need to prepare for a long throated .300 WSM and would welcome your recommendations for powder. Tikka T3x action. The barrel is a 20", 1 in 9 Hart. I plan to shoot 1 of 3 bullets, Swift Scirocco II 180, Barnes LRX 190 or Federal Terminal Ascent 200. It will wear a Banish Backcountry suppressor. This will be my primary Elk rifle with maybe Alaskan moose at some point. Looking to develop the handloads for hunting. I currently have H1000 but want more (faster?) options. What speed of powder should I be trying?
Also welcome your thoughts as to which bullet to use.
The photos show what I am after for COAL.
I wrote to Alliant and they said there are no plans to discontinue selling any of the Reloder powders to the public. However time will tell.RL16 is a tad faster than H4350 and also very temp stable. Great powder often overlooked. As mentioned RL26 will make it scream but will be a unicorn as when the current supplies on shelves dries up I read it will only be available to manufacturers now. If someones heard otherwise chime in.
Slam dunk here, try both H4350 and R17. Settle on one, then go forth and fill arks!I have alway heard great things about H4350…
What bullet and resulting speeds?H4350 and it's very temp stable. Some have excellent results with 6.5StaBall also but it pressure out very fast. I'm still working on load development for 20" 300WSM but mine was built on a short action.
Still working on it but I've been running 168 Barnes TTSX recently with H4350 around 3025-3050 with excellent accuracy. Next bullets to work on will be Berger 180EH and 185 Hybrid as well as the Sierra 180TGK. I also have a 22" 300WSM coming into the mix I will start working on soon. Still in the development stages of load development. Once I have 2 firings on the brass I should have better info for you. Also going to try some Ramshot Hunter as I came across an article with some good data. What bullet and resulting speeds?
Try Superformance been using it for a while in my wife's 300wsm with very good results with 200gr ELDX and 175 LRX. 2900 fps with 200's and 3070 fps with the LRX and very low SD's and really easy to find in the great white north.Still working on it but I've been running 168 Barnes TTSX recently with H4350 around 3025-3050 with excellent accuracy.
