Heavy bullets in .257 Weatherby ?

Tell us a little more about your rifle.

Just a good ol budget put together on a Tikka action. The light palma contour fits the CTR stock really nicely. Had Preferred Barrels build a pre fit, 27" tube, 1:7.5 twist, Black Jack reamer. Mainly going to be the kids new deer gun, that's why I went with the TI Pro 3 brake. Under $2500 into it including the Zeiss 6-24, ZMOA. Hoping to get the 135's moving at a pretty good clip. I started awhile back to play with the 135's on a ballistic calculator at 3300fps, and was amazed at the performance. Excited to start working with it. Going to start with H1000 and RL 25.

Was able to test run a couple of powders with the 135 Bergers. They all shoot into tiny groups, and here some results.
•74gr RL33 max load. 3150fps.
•65gr H1000 max load 3102fps.
•68gr RL25 max load 3126fps. I only got about 45fps gain going up 2 grains from 66gr to 68gr. Maybe a tad to fast burning for that particular load? I don't know
•66.5gr N570 3090fps, haven't hit pressure yet. Gun seems to really like this speed/powder combo, but I will probably try to see if I can get a tad bit more and keep the accuracy. Once it cools down I will take some of these old out to about 900yds and see how they act. Was hoping for a little more speed, but at least it's shooting well. My 9 year old son is very comfortable behind it as well. C220AB15-B376-410F-8E10-A864C8F84D32.jpeg67BA23CA-31B3-4E00-8A65-81EB9A518615.jpeg

You are pretty close to Berger's load recommendation.

It should speed up then. I was referring to your post #25, and my own experience with a 25 Sherman LA.
It's 3200-3275 max with 5-6 different powders and 133 EH.
Berger's data is generated by quickload isn't it?

That's the first time I have seen that chart. It's very accurate compared to what I am seeing. The rifle has 30 rounds down it.

They are simply a guide, whether it is generated via Quickload or a reloading manual. Each rifle/barrel and load combination does not perform the same as another setup; they will more than likely behave differently, i.e., I have 3 .300 WM and none of them shoot the same, so they have differently load developed.

Yea that's why I went 27" as well. Was really hoping to crowd that 3300fps mark with the 135's. But I am happy with it. And 3150ish FPS with the 135 is impressive with energy and velocity way out there for a 25 cal for sure. Maybe it will speed up a tad around 100 rounds or so.
