I prefer floated, with no contact forward of the lug. I've never noticed a difference between bedding just in front of the lug. An advantage is not worrying about any contour differences at the chamber end of the barrel should I change the barrel. With LR precision rifles I'm not a fan of barrel/stock tip contact regardless of barrel size. POI shifts have a good chance of occurring with changes in temperature; barrel or climate. IMO.
