Hearing Protection in Field

Suppressors work better with longer barrels. My 16" 308 suppresses is a lot louder than my 24" barrel. I have shot a 24" suppressed 300 win mag with DB in the high 30's to low 40's.

Looking for suggestions on hearing protection to use on a backpack hunt. What do you use and why did you choose it? Do you wear it all day long or keep close by and easy to grab? Thanks
Esp makes good amplifying ear plugs that protect your hearing at the same time ! I've used them for over 20 years !

How is the wind noise with them?

The wind noise is very similar to you normally hearing as it sits inside your ear.
Much better that most eat muff style I. The wind.
I originally bought the law enforcement construction ones. But I realized I already had enough hearing damage I went to the hunti g ones and they are much better for me. My brother received the other ones. He was a nuke in the navy and has a hard time with ear plugs hurting his ears. These he doesn't complain about.

I use Browning Peltor and Caldwell electronic muffs
The Caldwell are more comfortable for long wearing

I used the Caldwell electronic for many years and got a ear infection from sweating inside the muffs.
I now use the Walker Aids and they work very well but love to eat up batteries.
Am looking at Westone Hearing Aids now.
Breaks reduce recoil but will kill your ears if you don't protect them well.
Like Freddiej I plan on doubling up with in the ear aids and muffs like Caldwell's.
Just my 2 cents

The only reason I am posting twice in this thread is that something happened to me this morning. a fellow hunter came in and showed me "game ears" in ear hearing protection.. I am stoked. I love these things. noise canceling, they work on the same principle as my big muffs and they work with the muffs.. this is so nice. very clear and no feedback.. gotta love these. I am going to save up for a pair of these so the squishies might be relegated to my backpack.
