Handloading: How Many ?

Ooops, hit the wrong button. To continue:
Bolt action - 6
One was a benchrest rifle initially chambered in a cartridge I designed, and the gunsmith labelled it 7mm Stirner. Very similar to a long 7mm Valkyrie, or a short 7/08 AI. I recently rechambered it to 7mm/6.5x47.
The other is my favorite rifle - 35 Whelen AI
Shotgun - 2
It's hard to say if I'm increasing or decreasing the number. I recently bought a CZ Shadow 2, and have a

Ha! Glad to see someone else using paper wrap bullets for reduced loads in rifles. Also, I have used cotton paper to make varied sabot full power loads for 357-44 an 357-45 and other reduced caliber, high vel handgun loads. Love using a cast 123gr paper jacket in a 303 Brit and cast 180gr in a reduced 30-06 and others in a 45-70.

If you really want to play around with sabot loads, reduced or otherwise, try 45 cal high vel muzzle loading sabots with a 40 or 357/358 bullet in 45-70, 45LC etc. Loads of fun and using a 180 spire 358 in my 45-70 greatly improves the range. 45 LC with a 125 HP can be loaded very fast.

Above are a couple of pics showing the 45LC sabot loads with 125gr 357's and a 180gr cast 40 cal and a 165JHP 40 cal. The other pic shows 44 mags with a hand swaged 300gr JHP using a 40 cal case as the jacket, a high vel 357 cal 125grJHP in a paper patch sabot and a cylinder length 44 mag shot shell
Tell me more about your full length 44 mag shot shell. Is it for a rifle? Is the brass going up into the force cone?

Just a few these days, plus swaging dies and casting. Although I have a half dozen dies for cartridges I don't have guns for at the moment. I also swage bullets for my .30 cal. air rifles.

After reading through 16 pages and 214 posts I am surprised at how many of the lists don't have the

Well, you've got the herd too where it is now multiplying, that's the key to it all, the one that dies with the most wins! :)

Live in old Mexico, and reload for many rifle cartridges from 222rem to the 338 edge, rifle ammo sometimes is difficult to find down here (throw some wildcats in there) and friends ask me to reload for them.

Ever so often, we ask readers how many cartridges do you load for, and since we have several new members since the last time I saw it asked, how many do you load for and are you adding or decreasing numbers? Anything very unusual, very rare or of other interests?

Tell me more about your full length 44 mag shot shell. Is it for a rifle? Is the brass going up into the force cone?

It is for my Blackhawks and Redhawks, but can be made to work in my 1894's. Yes, the extended section does go all the way to the end of the cylinder throat, and those were made using trimmed 303 Brit brass with the rim turned. Fireformed with few grains of Red Dot topped with Cream of Wheat then loaded with 1/2 ounce of #9 shot for snakes or even close in ground birds or other game with larger shot.

Today, I use taper sized 445 brass instead of forming from 303 Brit, and load with a plastic over powder wad, shot and plastic over shot wad or gas check with heavy crimp. Once fired, they form to the cylinder and throat.

In 357, I use the 357 Max brass and the same procedure. I taper size those with a 223 sizing die, so they fit full length into the cylinder. In 45 Colt, a simpler way is to use 454 brass tapered with 45 gas checks over powder and over shot.

I have used these for numerous years, and they perform much better then the plastic cups sold by Speer, hold more shot, and have better patterns. Of course, they are reusable also.

If one walks around in snake country anywhere or wants a re-loadable small game load for their handgun/rifle, these are great to have.
