You laugh, but that's exactly what I used to do when I shot benchrest.

Preserve the pip as your aimpoint. Group your bullets about 1/3" away. Place your bullets precisely looking through a 36X scope.

Today, folks use 42+X scopes. 25 shot aggs run in the .180 range to be competitivešŸ˜± Look it up, and be amazed!!!!!

I do something similar myself. I use a 1.25" orange dot as an aiming point on my targets that are 412yds away. The crosshair would completely cover the dot. I hold the crosshair so that the dot is nestled into the upper left quadrant of the crosshairs, leaving all of my impacts clustered off the bottom right edge of the dot. If I actually hit the dot it would be a misplaced shot. LOL
