Hammer Hunter not fur friendly

Holllyyyyy cow the hammer hunter 92gn out of my 25wssm almost blew the dang shoulder off. Running 3307fps at the muzzle. Range was 120 yards broadside. Could not find entrance hole, Helen Keller could have found the exit.

Only have a sample of one. 80 gr HH, 243AI, 3602 @Muzzle. 15 yards, 3" diameter chunk missing from her back.

Definitely not fur friendly. That exit is the norm for the 35HH traveling 4730 fps from my 22-250AI. But then I'm not shooting them for their fur aside from a few scraps for tying flies.

If you want it to be fur friendly stay off the big bones (shoulder, spine, and on a frontal shot the breast bone)

55HH out of .243Win @4025fps is also NOT fur friendly! But they don't go anywhere.! I had kills early summer out to 450 so pretty darn accurate IMO! Then back surgery so glad I got out when I did. Varget was the juice.

90gr HHT going 3540 out of 6 Rem Ackley not fur friendly but fur not worth much here anyhow

Its tough to use just about any bullet and be fur friendly 100% of the time ! About the ony cartridge - bullets combo that has worked very close to 100% for me is the 17 Remington with 25 gr. Remington bullets very little hole in and none going out !

Did have a bunch of the Sierra 50 gr. HP that worked very good in a AR-15 with a 16" barrel in 223 it was rare for one to exit any chest shot !

Really any bullet put into a coyote is a good bullet....just some bullets leave a nicer looking hide !

Go to a full jacket bullet. Only I am not sure if 25cal are available. That should take care of the other side.

I made good money back in the 60's and 70's trapping, snaring and shooting !

Now that I've been retired for 18 years it give me a purpose, braking even would be OK now ! If the price of fur would have kept pace with inflation a new truck wouldn't be out of the question !
