Hammer Hunter Load Data, (See page 1, Post 8)

Here is a load for something completely different. 358 winchester with the 200 grain hammers (forget what they are called but the one with the 2mm hollow point. Similar to the hunters). Settled on 52 grains TAC. 6 shot velocity averaged 2685 fps(12 ft from muzzle) load data: 52 grains TAC, 2x fired starline brass, CCI 200 primers. Decent crimp with Lee fcd. Gun is a Mauser action with a 23.5 inch 1:14 twist Lother Walther barrel.
I could push this load harder as there were no pressure signs, but this is a large ring/ small thread mauser and it was recommended not to push it too hard. With that kind of performance I am still at 1800fps and 1500lbs energy at 400 yards. Definately not just a "short range woods gun"!!

I'm running the same bullet, powder, charge weight, and twist. Winchester brass, WLR primers and my barrels 22". Is it not awesome to see the 358s produce those kinda numbers? Can't wait to squeeze a few off this deer season. Should be impressive. I too could load hotter but I'm just about out of room in the case with 52.0. Been vibrating it in with an electric toothbrush. It helps.

1 1\2 inches was the last 3 shots. I was adjusting the scope so not really after groupings. I plan on loading maybe 5 more and really shooting for a group.

If more folks understood what a 200 gr 35 cal does to a critter the 358 would be a helluva lot more popular than it is. Glad I aint the only 358 shooter in here.
