Ok...Now we are getting somewhere. I am going to save you a lot of time and anguish. You will benefit greatly from buying the Hornady Lock n load OAL gauge and the appropriate 270 win case that goes with it. What you do is screw the case that you bought with the OAL gauge onto the OAL gauge, and slide the bullet inside the neck and then with it all attached, you slide the case into the chamber and use the little plastic rod to push the bullet up until it hits the rifling of the barrel. You then turn the little side screw so that the rod will not move which will keep the bullet at the point where it touched the rifling. You then measure the base of the case to the ogive with your Hornady comparator to get your measurement to the rifling. This will tell you what your MAX OAL is for YOUR rifle. That way, you can start seating the bullet back away from the rifling of the barrel.
