H1000 for 7mmRM?

Oh one more thing... if you can only pick up one 8 lb can of powder between H1000 and Retumbo what one would you go for?

Thanks. Its just $$$ getting in my way so for now only will add one more powder to my stable.

I also want it to be temp tolerant. Thanks

for shooting 140 150 and 168 grain bullets

Brian

ok gotcha. Just figured you could get pretty close if not 3100 fps and you were at 2800 fps. Thats all. But I know where you are coming from.

yeah, I'm going to shoot at my current speed (FPS) in order to save barrel life. If the bullets don't reach their target, then I'll increase the FPS.

168 vld .078" jump
70.1gr 7828ssc
Cci 250
3088 fps
26" Sendero (factory barrel)
Last range shot at 200 yds

I'm having great success with H-1000 in my Sendero 7mm Rem Mag. I'm using 66 grains, CCI BR2 primers, Berger 168 VLDs with Hornady brass- .410" 5-shot group

I am shooting 66 grains of h1000 also out of a 26 inch remington barrel.
162 amax in Hornady brass seat at .020 off the lands. This is my first load and I will work up from there. Groups were decent right at 1 Moa.

This is my target at 100 yds. Measured by Bullet center to bullet center.

Shooting 150 ETips out of my Rem 700 7mm RM I got slightly better groups out of H1000 than Retumbo. I think Retumbo would be a better bet with big heavy projectiles.

Thats a good start. Best of luck

Thanks for the info.

Im developing my ballistic charts and another factor that I'm taking into account is the dramatic temperature swings we get in Texas. My zero data reflects shooting in 65-75° F. Several months from now I'll be shooting in 100°F+ weather, which will greatly effect my MV.

Temp swings is something I NEVER TOOK INTO ACCOUNT before coming here. I dont know why or how I never thought about this but thank GOD I came here and I am learning more now from your guys vast experience do to your dedication to precision.

I have only been reloading for about 27 years but I never took this temp sensitivity into account. But from now on when I do purchase more powders I will be buying temp tolerant powders.lightbulb

thats good to know but I may just find 8 lbs of both H1000 and Retumbo and call it good as long as they are temp tolerant.

Nice shooting guys!!
I have also had good luck with the 160 Accubond & 73.5 gr of Retumbo powder. I am getting groups of less than 1/2" at one hundred yards ---3035 fps out of my Sako L61. Bullets seated back .030.

I just put a Mc Millan stock on it and shot 168 gr Berger VVD's & Retumbo powder & the first two shots were in the same hole at one hundred yards----lucky shots ---my groups started to open up..but I was developing loads & it started to get windy and also I was starting to flinch so I quit for the day.

Just picked up some IMR Enduron 4451 (for the 243 & 30-06) & some 7977. It is rated as a CFE & also insensitivity to temp changes. Looking forward to working up loads with both.
Anyone used these yet??

I have not, but I'd be interested in your findings.

My 7mag and my 7LRM both love the H1000. I did get better velocity with Retumbo and great accuracy out to 400yds, but the ES started to show it's effects out further. Plus the Retumbo seemed sooty with lot's of carbon fouling compared to the H1000.
