GUN WEIGHT

I just got my 18in 300 wsm barrel from carbon six. When I took it out of box it felt very heavy it weighs 2.5 pounds. Defiance action ag sportsman stock the gun weighs 5lb 15oz Has anybody weighed a barrel one to compare-does this seem heavy ??
I have a long action 300 WSM Model 70 SS action, Bartlein #4 CF 26" barrel w/ MBM brake, Stocky's VG2. Bare rifle weighs 7.5 lbs.

Wrong.
It's OK that you don't know how to handle a weapon like others but it's not across the board for everyone.
Weight doesn't matter😄😄😄😄

Seriously I do respect your opinion. But it doesn't work for everyone. You like heavier rifles because you can't handle light ones. Some of us are opposite. All good.
hahahhaah
Some of us like to brag about how light their pack is, some of us like to come home with big animals

Haha Marky boy I think you been paying too much money for tags and sitting in the saddle a lil too much. This was fun. Back to the OP.
No saddles for this guy, usually dropped off in a plane and away you go
Those mountains in idaho must have gotten bigger since last time i drove through there

I can say I've packed a lot of hunts. Even it's it's for long single day hikes. To me weight matters. I'm in fantastic shape and still like a light rifle. Allowed me to pack better shooting bag, or tripod, or any other equipment I like to make my shots better.

Sure I could haul a 8lbs rifle with me and still do it. But I could also start my hike by elbowing myself in the balls if I wanted to make it more difficult. But I prefer neither option if the extra money won't be missed and I get what "I" wanted for an action.

Weight never mattered to me. I grew up in steep mountains of NWMT.The wilderness part that stillI is. my favorite spots was 8 miles in,If the game was there id go 3 days in a row.Top or bottom didn't matter.Id be 6 miles in and see elk 2.5 miles away, go for it and have one down by dark. Now on otherwise of sixty, I was telling my boy after all season.archery lot of ten mile day rifle, high country muley, then elk.Felt like every day was HARD,really?I cut weight where I can, but the gear adds up.My 338 NM 7.20Z BARE BUT close to 9 dressed, rather pack my 6.5 prc ,but when I have a elk tag I want that 338

Isn't a featherweight steel barrel about the lightest you can get? I have a 30-06 featherweight with scope weighs 6.8 lbs--- but it only groups 2-3 shots before it strings---- but it's the 1st shot that really counts when hunting----- unless you like to shoot the beast multiple times in the wrong spot and loose meat 😜

Yes it is lighter. Carbon can be more accurate first shot by reducing barrel whip. But again mileage varies. I like my carbon but if I build my next rifle just to see how light I really can build one it would be pencil thin heavy fluting.

I have to admit, though, that as I get older, a light rifle is nice. The .30 Giibs is my lightest rifle, but I only use it for mid-range.

Nice M70, did you do a 26" barrel measured from cartridge tip like Rocky did? I always thought a .270 Gibbs would be fun.

What USO are you using?

This is my lightest rifle.

Howa .308 Win Superlite with Omega 300, this tiny rifle kicks my butt with 180s. I can't imagine I'd handle that Gibbs spitting 180+ grains any better. I wouldn't trust myself much beyond 400 yds with my Howa.

I also shed some weight, and am down into 32" waist jeans for the first time since the mid 90s. I've shed more than 60 lbs since Feb 2011. I'd still rather pack a sub 8.5lb rifle than lose any more weight.

Here I am speaking at a local school on Veterans Day a year apart.

I haven't been following this thread closely, hopefully I've covered most of the things talked about.
