Got a new rifle, sending it back to the factory

this has been addressed in the past, according to the site mods there are ways to "air your problems" properly-- an "informative" thread asking for help is usually better than just airing problems

So it's in the wording...interesting.

My ruger American groups 4 inches at 50 yards. I would like it to shoot 1 inch.

I used x different types of ammo.

What should I try before sending it back to ruger?

Boom! No complaining. Beat the system!

I was shooting somewhere around 4 to 5 inch 3 shot groups at 100, bad even for a bad rifle in my experience. Some of that I know was me. No doubt in my mind about that. I did check everything that could have come loose.

I know Ruger puts out a quality product and will fix or replace it. I am by no means demeaning them, just this one that seems to have gotten through quality control.

I think I can put some of my accuracy problems down to the very flexible stock foteend and using my bully bag as a rest. So I think once I get it back and do something different I will have a different result. I was having a similar issue with the axis when I started shooting it. I did swap my rings out on the axis, and put it on a bipod and brought those groups right down. I put the rings I took off the axis on the Ruger. I think I am going to get some more new rings for it and get rid of that particular set. That was a vertical split ring set. I wonder in the back of my head if that would effect things.

I agree, but several members have done that recently, and threads were deleted or they were banned. I am confused on rule 7. I know its intent, not to air dirty laundry or turn it into a he said / she said, but if something is crap people should know.

I agree - I want the good, the bad, and the ugly so I can make an informed decision.

I have spent a lot of time lurking around on this forum and others and you all have taught me a lot about shooting in general. I did try I think 5 different loads in this rifle resulting in the same feeding issue so I continued on feeding single. I purchased a magpul ai style magazine and tried it hoping it would be a simple magazine issue and had the same issue. I am sure this was simply one that slipped through the cracks and I know that Ruger will do right and repair or replace it.

I apologize if it looked like I was doing any kind of negative advertising. That was never my intention .

I think you are all good man. Len will usually give a warning or two before he drops the axe. I think everybody is trying to figure all this out. I am sure Len will let you know if you crossed a line. I don't think you did - just my 0.02.

Let's all quit this political correct sh-t. A piece of crap is still crap no matter how you disguise it. Let the people know if something is wrong. Quit worrying about offending some snowflake! Grow up America!! SemperFi

As in the famous words of Samuel L Jackson in Jurassic Park

"Hold onto your butts."

Sorry to hear about your issues....I'd be frustrated too. I will say though, those rifles are capable of really small groups when dialed in! My daughter shoots the same rifle and even when it was 100% stock, it was well under MOA with most cheap factory ammo. After doing a trigger job and throwing it in a Boyd's stock, it's a half MOA rifle with handloads from 120-143 pills.
Send it back and have them make it right. Then enjoy what it's capable of.;)

Pretty much the same experience I've had with the nine of them I now own. A couple are lefties but, all are in various chamberings from 223 Rem up to 30-06. Five of them are the heavier threaded barreled Predator or Go Wild versions, three are Standard and one is a Compact. All started around 1 MOA or less, with the various brands and grades of ammunition that I ran through them. Most shoot 5 rounds under 3/4 MOA now, with two of them shooting 1/2 MOA.

I have run a borescope through seven of the nine Ruger American rifles and it is apparent why they shoot so well. Except for a very light ring in the bores about every 8", which I assume is where the rifling anvil end was at each hammering stage, their bores could almost pass for custom match barrels. Very nice looking bores. Very accurate rifles, for under $500.00!

If i get banned for speaking the truth, then so be it. I still believe in the constitution, and took an oath to protect it, If this offends someone on this forum then this is not the forum i thought i joined so many years ago. Used to be you could speak your peace without someone getting all butt hurt! Pitiful.
