Good lord !

I agree. Reticle substension plays as much of a role as magnification. My old 3x9 Mark 4 with its very fine TMR reticle has worked for me out to 500 yards.

Yes the reticle is what makes the difference. I've got a Browning X-bolt 7mm mag that I just use for hunting and it wears a 3-9 redfield and I've taken it out to 750 with very reasonable results.

Shootcrooked, A suggestion for you, instead of the M-223 4-16 ( which I have an love), check out Nikon's newest longrange scope. The Nikon BLACK X1000 4-16x50SF, This also comes with an illuminated reticle and a choice of Mrad or MOA with turrets to match. This scope has 30mm tube, Side Focus parallax adjustment and outstanding Nikon glass and warranty. The most expensive int he series is $649 with the Illuminated Reticle MOA at $599. These scopes are just hitting the store now and hopefully I will have one on a rifle within the next 2 weeks. So far all I've heard from those who got the scopes early is, I love it, awesome and finally! Drop me a note if you have any questions.

24.3 oz for 30mm tube,50mm obj and illumination. Having not looked down one I can't give a personal opinion but guy's have told me it's better then the MONARCH 3 glass. Heath Baker who posted earlier in this thread might be able to add some insight into the glass, illumination and MOA/Mrad reticle.
Something you don't see very often is that this scope with electronic's has Nikon's No Fault Policy attached to it. Very rare when electronics are involved.

I hate to hear people come on public forums and whine that they can't afford certain brands and thus those brands are Greedy. I bought a Nightforce SHV F1 for $1100. Seems like it works as advertised and I am happy with it. Would love an ATACR but not willing to part with the coin for it. But certainly not sitting back and saying Nightforce is a greedy company. Up to them to price their stuff and make a PROFIT.

For the prairie dog question, I don't know that you can do much better than a 10X SWFA scope that will be on sale April 15th for around $280. Lifetime warranty, milquad reticle is great, and turrets work well. I was shooting dogs at 400 yards with a 6x SWFA and had no issues.

ABSOLUTELY!!!
If you do not like the price whether you cannot afford it OR whether you just refuse to pay that for it; then do not buy it..But don't attempt to talk bad about the company or their products because of that....

What profit margin do you think auto makers work off of?
What profit margin do you think beverage companies work off of?
What profit margin do you think outdoor clothing companies work off of?

I should hope you wouldn't need a 24x to shoot a p-dog at 550 yards...... 16x is PLENTY!:D
HA some one that has never hunter P- Dogs ! And you havent met my 40X and 50X yet have you,,, only a fool would go out with a 16 X.... Oh and tell me what you do when those babies appear that are about the size of tennis ball, ya a 16X sure will work at 550 , uh huh !

You need a 40X or 50X to shoot P-dogs like a fish needs a gocart..

You guys who don't think someone might need a 16X or a 24X seem to think everyone's eyes are the same. I hunted with two guys who had eyes like 7X binoculars. Another guy I hunted with has eyes maybe like 2X binoculars. They didn't realized most others can't see what they see.

When I was shooting squeaks with a .223 I much preferred 20X in my 8-32X Burris Signature scope. The field was only 314 yards across.

I am never happy about how pricing, purely because import Duties etc put most of the good gear out of reach of most folks, I have had some nasty experiences buying gear and importing things.

I eventually manage to find A New Leupold GR/Mk 4 at a sensible price but it took 3 years, Common Sense has to kick in somewhere, back 3 years ago I tried to buy a G7 on here and no one would send me one and now there is a dealer over here they now Cost $2500.00, and I ended up going with the Bushnell ConX because it has the range and the features I need and to be honest I prefer it to all the others because I have 3 ways to get the sollutions , But to be honest some of the things we see are more of a matter of want than need.
