G1–G7: Nearly had a heart attack!

So the fix is to recommend him a set of rings that don't exist?

While acknowledging they don't exist no less :)
You people kill me. The OP already has mounts and rings to work on his rifle. That isn't even why he posted in the first place. Note the TITLE of the post. Then folks got all over him about needing to 'lap his rings'...even though there is no 40mm 'lapping tool', for which Clifflopez and Therifleman556 had NOTHING to say about. But I get criticized for recommending 1" and 30mm rings for others to consider (not the OP)? Nice. :p

The OPs mount and rings are going to work FINE 'as is'. He bought top quality gear and will have no troubles when using it. Shame on folks for 'getting in his head' about potential problems when there would be none. And even if he bought a 'ring-lapping-kit', which one EXACTLY has the 40mm pieces he'll need? (I'll help you here - NONE.)

As for my comments about the Burris Signature rings (w/polymer inserts) the conversation had already degraded to a "you must lap" vs "lapping is unnecessary" directed NOT at the OP anymore, but to anyone mounting anything, to which I was adding to the very small chorus that the Burris rings remove those hassles and worries altogether while ensuring your scope never gets 'ring marks'. We were no longer trying to solve the OPs 'non-problem' of mounting his 40mm scope.

And to think, he just posted to point out that the difference between using G1 and G7 BCs really weren't that big of a deal when shooting out to 1000 yards, for which I'd like to thank Comancheria.

I was just clarifying that you say the fix is to use Burris rings that you acknowledge don't exist. You'll be fine. Bold text really drives your point home and I like that. Carry on the good work sir.

Actually, Gentlemen, it's all good. As the OP, I do not take offense at ANYTHING that has been said. While it is true that I opened the thread relating only to the reasons the dS app does not allow for G7 input—kind of a "Holy Crap" moment—I assure you all that the only reason I did not talk about lapping was that I intended to come back later, whining for advice!

I have learned the most over the years (on various forums) from what I will call—instead of "hijacking"—"redirected discussions."

If everyone agreed, no questions would ever need to be asked.

As I believe Rich said, back near the beginning, it is my responsibility to make the decision.

Think of me as President Trump, and all the rest of you, as my Administration! :)

Thanks again to all,

Russ

Back before I retired, I would often start controversial meetings with the statement: "If everyone here agrees with everyone on everything, then you can all go home and save me a lot of time."

You are dead-right. Differences of opinion and even different ways of looking at things is a key element of advancement. We don't have to agree to get along. We can simply agree to disagree. ;)

Seems to me one could always send the rifle to Long Rifles Inc and have them drill 8x40 scope threads perfectly concentric to the action. Problem, meet solution.....

If your Nickname comes from having a Kimber Rifle, then I have no idea why you would know anything about bad thread alignment. Never saw a Kimber with bad anything except the odd owner.........

Warning! This thread is more than 6 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
