Fun hunting story (I hope this is allowed).

My hunting partner and I are constantly pulling practical jokes on each other. Way too many to write about here, but they are what makes these trips so memorable.

Keith is a young man I meet when he was 9 yo in the scouts, now in his mid-40s. He earned his Eagle Scout when he was 16, pretty proud of him. He ultimately became my main hunting partner.

In November 2010, we made a trip to NW Oklahoma to hunt deer with another good friend. Had a great trip, between the two of us, we got six deer (a buck and 2 does each) and three wild hogs. We had them stacked up like a cord of wood in the back of my truck.

On the way home, as we entered CA, we were briefly stopped at the inspection station. I was worried they were not going to let us bring the deer whole. All I could see is us on the side of the road at 3 am trying cutting them up. Keith was driving, when the agent asked if we had any fruits, vegetables, or animals, he said "NOPE".

About a mile down the road I told him a good Eagle Scout doesn't lie. His response was "we don't have animals, we have carcasses!" We had a good laugh.

When we got home, the deer and hogs were put in the walk-in cooler at our gun club to be butchered the next day.

We spent the entire day processing them, what a job, cutting and vacuum packing 6 deer and 3 hogs.

When I got home, as I was unloading my cooler into the freezer I found a package with hair in it? When I picked it up, there was a set of family jewels neatly vacuum packed, OMG!

OK buddy, going to fix you. A mutual friend's son does amateur taxidermy, so I asked if he would mount it for me. He was over joyed to be part of this knowing what I was going to do with it.

Ryan mounted it on a wooden plaque with an erection!

At our next club meeting, it was presented to Keith in front of about 100 members. The guys roared. It now hangs on the wall under rack of the deer he shot on that trip.

I love it! I had a hunting mentor when I was a young teenager that loved to play pranks on me, he got me pretty good when I was about 14 years old. My buddy had dropped me off on the top of big cut block and I had slow hunted my way to the bottom, he was there waiting for me. I had bumped up a few deer but no bucks. We were slowly driving out from the bottom when my buddy slams on the brakes and hollers " buck, big buck". He was tagged out for the season so I new this was my opportunity. I jumped out of the truck and made my way to the steep edge he was looking down and I could see no buck, I looked at my buddy all wound up and asked "where is he?" He looked at me with a big smile and was holding a dollar bill, " I got him first he said." I was so excited and wound up it took me a wile to settle down, I vowed to get him back. He had tossed out the dollar bill just to get me and it worked. Fast forward about 3 years and honestly I had forgotten all about the prank he had pulled on me years before. Just so happened I was tagged out that year and we were creeping slowly towards an old burn where we were going to glass for a couple hours when I looked out the truck window and saw a Buck knife in the sheath laying on the ground... All of the memories came roaring back and a devious smile came across my face as I hollered " Buck, big buck Brad!" He about slammed us both in the dashboard as he jumped from the truck looking for the big buck, " where is he Jas? I can't see him." "He's right here I exclaimed holding the knife, and I found him fist! All in good fun and I still have the Buck 119 I found that day. Lets keep up the good fun! Cheers, Jason

Randy, I want to thank you for this post. I hope I am not undermining this at all but It has brought back a flood of memories about my partner Brad, he made so many sacrifices for me both in hunting and in life. Brad went through a bitter divorce many years ago and had moved back to his home state of Montana. Although we have stayed in touch over the years we have only seen each other in person a couple of times since then. He suffered a bad stroke a couple years ago and lost most of his cognitive function. He took me under his wing just after my Father had passed away and he came into my life when I needed him the most. He taught me how to reload ammo as a young teenager, I now load match ammo, he taught me how to shoot and tune a compound bow, I later went on to shoot competitive archery as well as harvesting some exceptional trophy bucks with a bow, We would shoot long range targets together before long range was popular, I have taken many animals long range, He taught me a lot about shot gunning as he was one the best I have ever seen with a shotgun in his hand. He loved to ice fish and held some Poison bay records in Montana for many years, he loved to elk hunt as well and some how I never made to Montana to hunt with him. Randy, you have done well by your hunting partner and I wish you both the best! I know I miss my partner and will never forget the good times and the lessons he taught me. Thank you! Jason
