First Hammers

Well, then i guess it's RL22!!
For future reference, RL23 is magic in the 280AI.
I've heard that. Heard it produces the velocity and accuracy of 22 with less temp sensitivity and better lot to lot consistency. Oh well, its either use what I have or pay the extortion rate on GB. 😒

Ok, back to "First Hammers", shot groups this morning with the 6.5 Creed. Pretty well settled on 48.0 gr of StaBall 6.5 behind 117gr shockhammers. Group measures .486" @ 3,165 fps avg and an SD of 8. Makes 2 calibers I have hammer loads for. Still loving these bullets. Shot velocity tests in my 280 AI with 143 gr Hunters. Found the wall with RL22 at 3335 fps. Heaviest load of Magpro was'nt showing pressure yet at 69.2 gr and 3248. I need to back off .5 gr of RL22 and shoot group and continue with the Magpro til I hit pressure I guess and see which shoots the best. The way these bullets perform I'll be loading them in everything I shoot before long.

It's a 4 shot group, sorry did'nt have an extra to dirty the bore.

Attached is my results at 300 yards with the 109 gr Absolute in my 6.5-284 Norma. Velocity is 3511 fps average. According to SubMOA App, the group is .620 moa. Might have been tighter if the wind wasn't swirling so much (7-12 mph). I'm very happy with the horizontal string on this.

Sweet! Is this a fur/paper rig or a long range target only?

Question: When I'm lookin for pressure limit with these bullets I've notice some powders eg Magpro give ups and downs along the way. Like 3 loads steady climbing then the next drops below the last and the next starts back up. Have you encountered this? I'm loading in .3gr increments and I'm not accustomed to a heavier load shooting slower than the one before it.

This is an example smaller numbers being the difference between the two loads.

All my rifles are for hunting. I shoot paper during the off season because I like to shoot.
Hopefully a NM pronghorn will be on the receiving end of this load at the end of August.
Here's my 6.5-284.

You're hitting a node when it flattens out

I totally get that but going from 3213 to 3148 with .3 gr more powder. That aint flattening thats falling. Or am I just misreading?
