I drew a sheep tag in 2023 in a unit with extremely rough country and hunting out of a boat , spot and stalk from 1100'- 6000' elevation. Several issues I had to think about were ,I'm 70 years old , I needed to be able to shoot from 100- 500yds , location in reference to being able to retrieve the sheep after the shot , and being able to put the shot in the right place . I have rifles from 6.5 PRC -338 RUM that shoot 1/4"groups. My hunt was in the middle of November during the rut with the possibility of snow, fog, and slick conditions. The 280AI and the 338RUM were both in the boat. When the time came to leave the boat the sheep made the decision and the choice was 338 RUM. 1100' climb, 32 degree slope uphill , 150 yds, off hand shot , and a once in a lifetime hunt. I got lucky , I missed the 1st shot and he didn't move. 2nd shot through both shoulders the ram rolled 50' and came to rest on a small ledge over looking a 40' cliff. Be somewhat prepared for the unexpected. Practice a lot in all types of weather and shooting positions without the bench. Shoot in the wind ,rain, shadows, sun, and whatever else mother nature can throw at you. Good luck , keep us posted when you get back
