Finally got some time off to shoot the 50BMG…..

I had the Barret and the McMillan TAC 50. We were in WV and shooting long range when a very good buddy walked up beside the TAC 50 just as I shot, it bloodied his nose and gave him a pretty bad headache for 2 days. Not sure if he got a concussion or not but I caution everyone around a 50BMG. The TAC 50 with the Big Mac stock was a very good rifle but with all the advances in bullets and powders, I enjoy my 300PRC more, so I sold both 50 caliber units. I used the 750 grain Amax ammo for both.

I always wore ear plugs and sound deadening ears over to avoid any issues.
I sure wish I would have had ear pro and remember having a headache after a few hundred .50 rounds that day. At the time I just figured it was the stress of the day and never attributed it to the .50. Hindsight, it was the .50. Between the ringing and the flat out not hearing things is a real buzz kill some days.

You have to be careful with a BMG. The military is starting to document some injuries from the recoil and concussion and are now limiting the number of rounds per range session.
SNOWFLAKES!!! must be the same recruits that can pull a red stress card in basic. HAHAHA back in my day a Drill Instructor would make you EAT that red card and the second one would make ya ask for seconds!!! Our military REALLY needs some work!!!

Roger that, almost as bad as shooting an 81mm mortar out of a M113!!! Boy, if some of us vets had a dollar for every .50BMG sent down range we'd be some seriously RICH folks!!!
That's where my brain went. Can't even imagine how much it cost for all the 50 ammo we burned through. Wish I had that cash, I'd be hunting sitting in a tree stand right now instead of on my phone. Lol

Yep, muzzle blast knocks things off the bench next to me.I would not want to be sitting there when firing.
I have owned five 50's over the years. One of the first ones was a single shot that was an upper that fit on a beefed up AR10 lower. It was a beast and very accurate. I was shooting off a bench at the hunt club I used to run. One of the members came up and asked to shoot it, but he wanted to shoot it at 800 yards and the concrete bench was at 500 yards from the berm. He said he would shoot off his tailgate, I told him he could, but it was a bad idea. Anyway he pulled down the road away from the target and then stopped at 800 yards and turned his truck around, so the front was facing the target and then angled maybe 30 degrees right of the target. He then could use the majority of the tailgate as a bench on his right side, but that put my brake inches from his brake lights and rear quarter panel. I told him this was a very bad idea. He said his Ford was not worried, why was I? I told him he had to wear ear and eye protection and I took the bystanders back 30-40 yards to watch the show. Long story short for those that shoot 50's, the muzzle blast energy is immense. On pulling the trigger, the brake light fixture and housing exploded into hundreds of pieces of broken plastic shrapnel. The shooter was fine, but did have a couple of cuts on his face and forearms. We all laughed a little and he tried to play off the damage....until we looked at the side of his truck. the whole left rear quarter panel from the rear tire to the brake lights was dented in like someone hit it with a very big sledge hammer. I just shrugged my shoulders and it was a very silent but understood "told you so". I offered to let him shoot it again from the other side to make his truck symmetrical but he declined.

The cost of all the munitions I have fired off over my career would easily exceed a million dollars.
The Javelins, Tow, are by far the most expensive per shot but just the amount of belted and single rounds would be astronomical, I would be able to have a very nice home, truck and some land 😂
