I will add, a lot of it is shot placement. I heard on this site, when I took my AR in 5.56 out Hog hunting, I had better watch out, you will have a mad hog on top of you, blah, blah, blah.. Well, one shot on three hogs ranging from 150 to 200lbs, in the neck at the base of the skull, they never made a sound, bang drop is all it was, this at 80 yards.

Budlight the bristle plate is in the front and on wild pigs they are thick!
It stopped my 243 90 gr partitions on 180 pound boar,2 shots no dead pig that day.
Next week ti brought my 30-06 with 180 gr partitions and killed a similar pig from the side at 44 feet.
I was hoping for a frontal shot to check the bristle plate versus 180 gr partition but not that day.
I too love the 270 and I have hunted elk here in Montana with it.

The Ex-wife drilled two.. .243 winnie from a Ruger 77 mano stock..100 gr winchester power point. Less than 100 yards.. through and through. One 220. The old female 313 pounds. Both dropped on the bang!

I got mine with .44 mag Ruger super red. 9.5 inch barrel. Handloads 320 hard cast. Rear quartering hit liver and cross the chest....broke opposite shoulder and cut a 2 inch sapling just past hog...

have never hunted hogs but they do live not too far from where I am so it's on the to do list.

Open spaces/long range my long range hunter 300 win mag.

in the thick stuff my dads old marlin 30-30 lever gun iron sights, takes care of business in a hurry

if a mixed kind of hunt involving a lot of walking and possible closer running shots, my sporter weight 270. Much more nimble than the big 300.

if honestly expecting/looking for up close and personal excitement perhaps my 12 gauge pump gun.

I'm dying to find a place that I can come and kill some pigs. I live in TN in a place where we have none, and for whatever reason, this state refuses to allow us to open up on them. It is literally illegal for me to go out right now and kill a pig in TN. Do any of you know where I could get to in a days drive and have a reasonable chance at getting into some pigs?

Problem is there are no guarantees on these hogs!! You can't figure them out, one day here next day who knows!! Best thing to do is find a place that has hogs and plan on a day or few to hunt them. Do some research and make some calls. There is a place in North Texas, they chase them with Razors and use shotguns and have thousands of acres to hunt and they alway do well!!

If I can find a spot to pitch a tent, I'll come for at least a few days, maybe a week. I'm not expecting to get access to anybody's honey hole, just kinda hoping to get a lead on a segment of public land where a man who doesn't mind beating up his boots can have a chance at them.
