gun)I have had hornady say the amax should not be used for hunting. I have shot several deer with the 155 amax out of my 300rum mostly white tail and one mule deer . I have found the 155's running high velocity will explode like a little bomb. NOW I KNOW I KNOW THEY DIDN'T PASS THROUGH I NEVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT A BLOOD TRAIL BECAUSE THEY FELL OVER DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS. NOW I LOAD THE 208 AMAX AND IT DOES PASS THROUGH I SHOT A YOTE THIS YEAR AND ONE DOE AND ONE BUCK . THE SLOWER VELOCITIES WITH THE A MAX WILL CAUSE THEM TO RETAIN THEIR WEIGHT AND PASS THROUGH LIKE THE HUNTING BULLETS.

In my experience, the Nosler Partition.
The B.C.s are not as good as the newer designs; but when you absolutely, positively need to kill something (from any angle), the PTs have never let me down.
Never had one to fail, both near and far....and find no fault with them except they blow too big a hole if you don't want to waste any meat....but that's just as well, and better than losing one....

I currently use the accubonds in both my 300 WSM (180 and 165 ABs) and also my 280 rem (140 and 160 ABs). gun)

I used the 180 AB in my 300 WSM to take my first Alaskan bull moose this year up off the Takotna River in SE AK. Passed thru both shoulders no problems animal was DRT one shot kill. Have also taken several whitetails, mule deer, and antelope with the 150 and 165 AB`s in the 300 WSM with no problems. Same can be said for the 280 using the 140 and 160 ABs. Great performing bullets in both long (up to 495 yards) and short range applications and very accurate in my rifles. :D

I will stay with the nosler ABs for sure but have started to look at the Barnes TTSX and MRX bullets this year as well. I want to try those products out and see how they group in my rifles. Time will tell.

Has anyone thrown a .338 scirocco (.210 grains) at big game (elk) out of a super/hyper velocity cartridge (.338 LM/.338AM)? If so, what were the results?

For 150 lb hogs and bellow 130 scirocco out of my 6.5 x 284. For 150 to 500 labs 180 gr scirocco out of my 300 Win mag.

Very bad results out of my 308 with 175 SMK's on 200 to 400 pounders.

I am with you LewisH.
Nosler Partitions from 243 to 338. They are accurate usually MOA or even sub MOA, and they will open, and not come apart even through bones.

Thanks guys for the comments. Why I ask about the scirocco in .338 is because of the devestating effects I saw from my 7mm STW at 372 yards on a good Wyoming buck antelope. I gotta think that bullet would be just as effective on an elk at 600+ yards from a hyper .338!

Thanks,

Ive been shooting Barnes bullets for as long as Ive owned my rifle (300winny). I first started shooting 130gr barnes-x when I was younger and only deer hunted...it seemed to be more than adequate for the hunting I was doing. Later, i started to elk hunt and wanted something that I could load for both animals. I loved the performance of the barnes so i was partial to their bullets. I chose to load the 150gr TSX and have had ZERO problems with them yet...as previously mentioned from another member "i have yet to have one walk away from a one-shot-kill"....from any yardage.

(80gr imr4831, WLRM primer, 020" from lands, Vel: 3450fps, average deviation 22fps), Ruger tang safety M77, glass bedded, custom radial port brake, 2.5lb trigger pull, Burris Signature Select 3-12x44, .375" groups @100yds ALL DAY LONG with this load.

Granted different bullets shoot well out of different guns, just saying Ive always had very good luck with Barnes

For me this is completely calibre specific.

My .338 Lapua won't shoot Accubonds but loves the 215gr Gameking almost as much as the 250gr Scenars.

My .300 Winmag shoots 180gr Sciroccos and 208 Amaxs very well but went with the Sciroccos for velocity advantages.

My .308 shoots 168gr Amaxs and SMKs exactly the same so I can use them interchangably but usually go with SMKs only because I have had more experience with them.

My .264 Winmag shoots 140gr Partitions and Gamekings equally well but choose Gamekings for cost.

My .300 WBY shoots accubonds better than anything else.

I have no 1 go to bullet for all applications and calibres.

I have probably shot more deer and black bear with Remington CoreLokts than anything else. Here is factory 6.5x55 and my Mod 700 with my CoreLok 180 reloads. Shooting 100yd off hand.
