Explain the need for a 28 Nosler

Don't sell the 7mm mag short. I have 23 one-shot elk kills with mine. Plus, I am now using a .270 at times and have added two one-shot elk kills in the last two years.

True, but then i wouldnt have all the others to play withh. If ww only had what got the job donez we would have just 270's, 30 06's, 308's and loaded right with good bullets 260 rem's. Talking hunting here at 500 yds or less.

Good question. I have a .270 and a 300 win mag I did not have a 7mm cartridge so I went with a 28
I dont ask why I ask why not .

I wont buy anything Nosler anymore. Their bullets are overrated, over priced, and the BC values have been identified over the years as lower than actually what Nosler claims. Furthermore, Nosler brass is some of the softest I ever used and a waste of money too. With that said, I wouldn't touch any Nosler cartridges in general. I have a 7 SAUM that's plenty of horse power for what I do. And if you need something with more power a 7mm rem mag will work fine. The brass is cheaper and dies too. To hell with Nosler.

Wo t argue, beacause different strokes, for different folks. If u r happy, who cares what anybody else thinks. I like at least one of everything it seems.

I needed one because they shoot cool stuff, a looooong ways off. It really kills the wind with the 195 Berger. Love my 28 No's. 7 rem just sits in the safe now.

Its funny I hear everyone complaining about the Nosler 28 Nosler brass, I have one set of 100 that I have 6 loadings on, That included load development, ladder etc. and some very hot loads during that time. My load is pushing 195's at 3150FPS and the brass is still holding up fine. If people would just season their brass,(shoot the first 1 or 2 loadings on the lighter side ) it will haden the head and you are fine. I do it with all my brass even Lapua I shoot in my F-Class rigs. I have 20 pieces of this brass with 10 loadings on them and still in good shape.

I have seen some Nosler brass that was way soft but I haven't had a problem with the 28 brass or even my Nosler 6mm Dasher brass. I have some of the dasher brass that I have 28 loadings on, and a hot load with the 110 SMK's at that.

Another question.
Even though speed is not the only criteria for long range hunting, it is important and cartridges that handle the biggest bullets seem to have an advantage for this sport. Magazine length has never been a problem for me and in my opinion a 4" mag will do anything I want.

I have owned about every factory 7 mm known to man and many wildcats. except the 28 Nosler
and was just wondering what reasonable velocities I could expect from the 28 using 195 grain bullets ?

I built a bunch of them. In a 26" barrel the 195 has a node around 3050 fps with rl33. Its extremely accurate. Thats a safe load that doesnt trash brass. Beware of the "hype" loads you read about. There were quite a few failures early on with the 195. I dont know if newer lots are better. The 28 Nos with 195s is a sweet package if they have that bullet worked out. A lot of guys went back to 180s. I feel the 28 is a bit much for the 180s. But I dont like running Bergers much over 3100.

I also agree about the Nosler Brass, I bought 100 rounds and use 10 just for load Development. I have over 10 firings on them and they are still in good shape. However I'm only pushing the 195's at 3050 with 86.5 grains of RL-33 I didn't have much luck with my barrel the first time I chambered it. I got very good accuracy but it fell off pretty quick. I lopped off an inch and re chambered it and use it for my hunting barrel still shooting 3/8" groups but only about 150 rounds through the second chambering. I also have a 28" brux that I use the same load for and get 3160 out of it. I use it to shoot what I call ELR with it. The farthest I've shot with it is 2250 yards. At that range you can no longer see your splashes if you miss. I use a 30" x 40" piece of steel but it's very dependable out to 2000 yards 1 mile hits on that big of target is fairly easy, but I also get reliable hits at 1 mile with my 6 creed out to a mile At any rate I think the 28 nosler with the 195 is a great hunting round

Went out and shot this one again today.......
160 NAB's at 300 Yards. 3290 FPS. SD of 7...
It's just damned hard to want to lose any more barrel life trying any heavies or VLD's with a load that shoots consistently like this one does....LOVE IT!!
