EPIC PDog HAMMER TRAIL

This was my concern when ordering hammers. Them opening up on thin, narrow light skinned targets. I have not shot a prairie dog with one but our whitetails are not that much bigger. I talked with Steve and ordered some dead blows for by 30 cal and then ordered some hammer hunters. It was not necessary as the hammer hunters work perfectly on little and big targets

Thanks

Buck
You have Prairie Dog size deer?! I thought Texas deer were tiny…

Buck,
FYI, in .30 I prefer Hammer Hunters in 30-06, 300WSM and 300WM. I just never saw the really big differential between AH and HH in .30 so I stayed with HH.

30-06: just flat loves the 180HH and shoots 1/2MOA. Son killed nice 10 last fall with it snd devastating! The 124 is pretty darn good too.
300WSM: 124HH and 166HH shoot really well.
300WM: I like big bullets for elk even though I believe the light fast works well on them. But I have a 196HH load with RL26 that I settled in at 3150! It was 3250+ but backed off for brass and my trashed shoulder.

Interesting powder find is Ramshot Hunter and Big Game seem to marry up really nice with Hammers! And available for most part!
Muddy what cartridge do you use the Ramshot in? There is a bunch on the shelves around here.

Buck,
Off their website on Deadblows:

DeadBlow Hammers are Hammer Hunters that are designed to retain 40%-50% on impact. They simply have a very deep hollow point that causes them to shed much larger nose petals.
Just for clarity. The bullet in the video was the Absolute Hammer not the Dead Blow Hammer. Absolute Hammers have same HP depth as Hammer Hunters. I would have no issue using the original Hammer Hunter or Absolute Hammer on thin skinned deer.

I shot my biggest hog of the year with the a .308, 125gr Hammer Hunter. You won't have any issue with any of the Hammer Hunter, Power (Shock) Hammer, or Absolute Hammer on deer sized animals with a .308.

30-06 loves Hunter
300WSM LOVES Hunter!!! The 124HH and Hunter is OMG!
300WM Big Game !!!

I just started using it last year and boy I was blown away! Just look at load data and see these powders are usually listed near top loads.

I just worked up a load in my .357RemMax with .358 140SH and Ramshot Enforcer that cannot be believed. I am running the 140 at 2700fps out of a .357 Max! Are you kidding me? I am becoming a Ramshot guy fast! Cost per pound way less than most powders!

Yep I got the dead blow and the hammer hunter in 166 and 174 and both are awesome out of the 300 wsm. This was my try at mono Bullets and was a bit skeptical so Steve sent both. The HH worked so good I don't bother with the dead blows.

Ed our deer in Florida are about the same as Texas but they are prairie dog sized compared to the northern WT

Thanks

Buck

Boy..... you must be in sales....????
I own some hammer bullets..... and yes they are good....
but let,s not forget....
there,s been
150 years of great kills made before hammer bullets came into existence.
Do you take a dump on everyone who is excited about their inventions? yes he's got a product he sells but it's a pretty huge intellectual leap between what Steve playfully said and what you are feeling like he said. Been seeing a lot of that lately and I find it pretty rankling.

So when we shoot 200# + dressed in Indiana and Michigan that isn't normal for FL?😂 We don't shoot one every year but usually between son and myself, one of us will connect with a "hog". I shot a 156+" in late Dec couple years ago that dressed 227 that we wondered what he must have been late Oct!
Muddy we do get the occasional 200 live weight in the agricultural areas but the average deer is about 140-150 alive. Most don't make it past 3.5 yrs in our areas so some of the areas that manage for older deer could see bigger averages. A old doe might make 90 lbs. Mammals typically get smaller as you go south toward the equator. The deer in Florida keys full grown are about the size of a yearling

Thanks

Buck

Only messing with ya! Further north even bigger. I grew up hunting Adirondacks and some of the bucks that we dragged out was nuts! Big woods deer like there and Maine are clearly different! Now that I am older than dirt, I like driving up to a buck laying in cut corn field!!😂 Then step back and let my son and his buddy load!
