Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I believe that with hand loads you can get 3300 fps with IMR 4831 out of a 6.5 PRC. I'm a big subscriber to the old Roy Weatherby aphorism "velocity kills".Honestly I wouldn't hesitate for a moment shooting an elk with a 6.5 creed moor with a hammer bullet. AH 123's going 3,140 out of it would be lethal. I have a friend that has shot 2 elk with 120 TTSX bullets and had pass throughs. Shots were around the 300 mark pass through on one stopped in the far shoulder of the other. He said the outfitter stated that it was as good or better than larger calibers he had seen results from. I have a 6.5 prc coming that I'm having made and this was the setup I was going to use this year on elk. Bypassing my 7mag and 28 nosler. I have taken Texas heart shots with the 260 and 6.5 creed with the Barnes 120 tsx and I can tell you every time that the bullet exits somewhere in the front chest or shoulder every time. So that's a lot of penetration from end to end on a deer. So the idea of using the hammer bullets which I believe are a lot lot better bullet honestly makes me excited. I believe in them so much my wife when I get home in the evening says "more Hammer bullets come fedex today". I just smile and go shoot lol.

I've harvested 3 elk with my 257Bee shooting 117 grain Sierra all out past 300 yds they were all 1 shot kills the furthest any of the three ran was about 20 feet. All were shot at the junction of the neck and shoulder. That PRC will do the same thing but probably better.I don't know for sure if this is the correct forum for this and apologize if it isn't. I'm sure there are members using this and was just wondering if any body can help me with their results and recommendations or steer me to the right resource. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find anything on point.
Thanks
I recently had a chance to go on a feral cattle hunt with my 6.5 PRC using 123 dead blow hammers. I took a shot through his front shoulders at 335 yds in the pouring rain. Right through both of his shoulder paddles and ended up just under the skin. Around half the bullet deformed and lost its petals somewhere in his cavity with an excellent wound channel. He ran around 30 yds before taking a few steps backwards and rolling over dead. I shot him there on purpose to test my 6.5 PRC. That's only big bull so far as I will do more testing next time I have a chance to get up there. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a big bull elk with it.
My son actually made sea salt and crushed pepper grilled back straps with stove top stuffing. The cleanest and freshest meat you can find and not gamy at all!!!
I'm getting 3300 plus out of my 26 in 6.5 prc with 124 hammer hunters N165 hope to top that by 200 or more with the 123 absolutesThanks, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Any time brother!! You can come down and shoot one for yourself. We can have my son cook us up some backstraps and we can pack the rest of the meat for you to take home!! AlohaI just want to know what time to show up for dinner????
60.0gr H4831sc and a Fed 215M will get me 3,190 ft/sec with the 124HH in my 23.5" Proof bbl. What charge are you using to reach 3,300 ft/sec?I'm getting 3300 plus out of my 26 in 6.5 prc with 124 hammer hunters N165 hope to top that by 200 or more with the 123 absolutes
Thank you. My first rifle was a Mark 5 257 Mag but it has a sporter barrel that I have shot out. I got the rifle in 1965 and probably have shot over a 1000 rounds. So I have to get it re-barreled but Weatherby doesn't make that barrel anymore and their barrels will require reaming out my stock which I don't want to do - it has a beautiful stock. If it shot the 117's I'd be carrying it still.I've harvested 3 elk with my 257Bee shooting 117 grain Sierra all out past 300 yds they were all 1 shot kills the furthest any of the three ran was about 20 feet. Thanks. I just have a bunch of IMR4831. I've just looked in all my reloading books and haven't seen anything on N165. Where do you get reloading data on it for the 6.5PRC?I'm getting 3300 plus out of my 26 in 6.5 prc with 124 hammer hunters N165 hope to top that by 200 or more with the 123 absolutes
