I'm sure you've watched a good mix of pro & con videos of the Byrna devices? I'm assuming you are considering the handgun version. After seeing several videos I came away unimpressed w/it's ability to quickly neutralize a threat, but maybe just the deterrent effect of it looking like a gun to an aggressor would serve the purpose? Only you can decide that.

But when you see a guy hit twice in the chest & he says something to the effect of, "Is that it? Did the balls not break?" And then about 30 seconds later he starts to notice effects, it's just not inspiring. BUT...if a bad guy assumes its a real gun of some sort & breaks contact w/o it having to be fired, then it really was useful & effective, so maybe?

Intel is they lose them at Disneyland or any of those places that confiscate it going in, unless you plan on going through some extreme measures. Or best case it gets left in the car.
If you're going to carry a gun, just carry a gun imo. Get the full training and keep training.

The other intel is, it doesn't work for any real threat. It's only really useful if you have distance, and you can keep that distance in an attempt to not be pursued. Still requires some basic training and knowledge.

We'd fight (training) in the marine corps while sprayed with OC spray. I'll tell you right now, that hasn't and won't stop me or anyone I know…and that's not really something you want to hear.

Depends. You can't be a teen to buy it, but some states allow 18 to carry. Colorado probably not.

Bad idea, if it looks like a gun will be treated the same. The old sayin never bring a knife to a gunfight. In this case, deploying any gun in a non deadly use of force encounter is reasonable for the bad guy to be in fear of their life justifying their escalation to lethal force to defend themselves. This is a distance weapon, what non deadly situation would it be legal to be deployed with distance involved?
Spend the money on some martial arts classes, they will probably enjoy that better than walking around strapped with a gun.

The Byrna's are effective. The sheriffs office where I used to work supplied them to us, but I never deployed it. Other deputies did, however, and they worked just how they were supposed to on center mass shots. Although, you can also clear a room out pretty quick if a "floor shot" or "skipping" shot is taken……don't ask me how I know.
I always preferred the Taser. The safety on the Byrna has to be thumbed "down" and the Taser safety had to be thumbed "up" and that's what my "muscle memory" was used to…..so I opted NOT to carry the Byrna.

I sold TASER to agencies in the PNW and took a five second ride. I'd suggest one of those. Less than lethal in health insurance, firearms are life insurance. But if all they can carry is less than lethal, or if they aren't at the maturity/ age requirements for CCW then LTL is better than nothing.

In this case I know of no option for teen girls to carry. Less than lethal or otherwise.

Not sure I'd recommend the Tasers that Law Enforcement typically uses. In order to be of any effect the user would have to stick around and make sure that awful 5 second ride (I've taken it as well) took place……BEFORE removing the cartridge instead of vacating the area immediately. They also shouldn't be left behind.
However, there is the Taser "Bolt II" and Taser "Pulse II" for civilian use. They both provide a HELLISH 30 second "ride" for the attacker and are designed to be placed on the ground after deployment in order to effect an escape.

Unless things have changed civilians could not get the same TASERS as LEO/ military. When I sold them the range was shorter for the civilian cartridges. But the duration/ ride was longer. I think it was a 30 second ride. The idea was to deploy and make a good connection. Then drop the unit and run. The prep would get an enjoyable 30 seconds of tingling while you escape.

They can purchase very similar ones, however they just look a little different. Lack of software is probably the only main difference.
